Do you need to expand your crew and want only the best officers in Star Trek Fleet Command? Our STFC officer tier list breaks down the strongest officers to build, where they are most useful, and which ones are worth prioritizing as your account grows. Officers’ power depends heavily on the job. The best officer for hostile grinding is not always the best officer for PvP, for example. Mining officers have their own purpose, below-deck officers give quiet boosts, and early-game players may need completely different crews than higher-Ops players.
That is why our guide ranks the best officers in Star Trek Fleet Command by role, as well as in general. Below, you’ll find the best officers for PvE, PvP, mining, base attacks, armadas, below decks, and early progression. STFC Officer Tier List
This general STFC officer tier list focuses on overall usefulness, value in their role, long-term investment, sourcing, and how often an officer helps across major parts of the game. However, this table is only a starting point, not a strict ranking. Star Trek Fleet Command is a crew-based game, so officer synergy is more important than ranking each officer in isolation. That is to say, a lower-tier officer can be excellent in the right crew, while a powerful officer can feel useless in the wrong seat.
| Tier | Officers / Officer Groups |
|---|---|
| S-Tier | Janeway, Suder, Seska, Pike, Moreau, Chen, Picard, Beverly Crusher, Khan, Kirk, Spock, Gorkon |
| A-Tier | T’Laan, Hugh, Gaila, Joachim, Kras, Klaa, Nero, Carol Freeman, Geordi La Forge, Rom, M’Benga, Kang, Honorguard Worf |
| B-Tier | Cadet Uhura, Cadet McCoy, Instructor Spock, Next Gen La Forge, Next Gen Crusher, Next Gen Data, Vemet, Livis |
| C-Tier | Grace Chen (if replaced by newer PvE crews), T’Pring, Stonn, Barot, Domitia, K’Bisch, Helvia, Pan, Joaquin, Arkady Ivanov, Liviana Charvanek |
| D-Tier | Instructor Cadet Scotty, Cadet Sulu, Cadet Kirk, Cadet Scotty, Javaid, Vel K’Bentayr, Mara, Komal, Rukor, M’Ral, common stat-stick officers, low-impact temporary filler officers |
S-Tier STFC Officers
S-Tier officers are the highest-value officers to build because they either define major crew setups, stay useful for a long time, or help in important daily activities.
Janeway, Suder, and Seska are major names in the current PvE meta discussion. The Janeway-Suder-Seska setup has become a popular PvE meta crew because it can improve survivability and hostile grinding efficiency for the right accounts.
Pike, Moreau, and Chen remain some of the most recognizable hostile-grinding officers in STFC. This crew has been useful for years because it helps players kill hostiles more efficiently, especially before they move into newer or more specialized PvE setups.
Picard and Beverly Crusher fill a similar PvE role for many players. Some accounts also use Picard/Beverly as an alternative hostile-grinding core depending on unlocks, officer levels, and crew availability.
Khan is one of the most important PvP and base-attack officers in STFC. He is valuable because he can scale damage over time and helps turn longer fights into stronger finishing windows.
Kirk and Spock are classic morale-based officers with long-standing value in PvP, survivability, and early-to-mid progression. They may not be the newest names in the game, but they remain excellent because many players unlock and use them across multiple stages.
Gorkon is one of the most important hull-breach officers, especially for PvP-focused players. Hull breach can dramatically increase damage output when paired with the right crew and ship.
Additionally, Mining officers also deserve S-Tier consideration, but not because they’ll win you fights. They are valuable because mining is a constant part of progression, and officers with unique mining bonuses can save huge amounts of time over the life of an account.
A-Tier STFC Officers
A-Tier officers are strong, useful, and often worth building, but they are usually more role-specific than the S-Tier officers.
T’Laan is one of the most useful early PvE officers, especially against interceptor-style hostiles. Many early and midgame players use her alongside Chen-style hostile crews, depending on what they are fighting.
Hugh is valuable because of his hostile-grinding utility and synergy with certain PvE setups. He is not always the first officer new players will unlock, but he can become very useful as your roster expands.
Gaila is especially useful in armada content because she can help reduce incoming critical damage when used correctly. She is not a general-purpose officer, but she’s very valuable in the right content.
Joachim is often associated with base attacks and Khan-style setups. If you participate in station attacks or PvP-oriented play, he can be a useful investment.
Kras, Klaa, and Nero can all have PvP value depending on your crew, ship, and target. They are not universal answers, but they can help create potent combat setups.
Carol Freeman, Geordi La Forge, Rom, M’Benga, Kang, and Honorguard Worf are examples of officers who may be important for specific content, sourcing paths, or crew strategies. Their value depends on what your account is trying to do.
B-Tier STFC Officers
B-Tier officers are still useful, especially for early accounts, but they are usually stepping stones rather than long-term top priorities.
Cadet Uhura, Cadet McCoy, and Instructor Spock are useful early because they help newer players build functional crews before unlocking stronger officers.
Next Gen La Forge, Next Gen Crusher, and Next Gen Data can also help early and midgame players, especially when better officers are missing.
Vemet and Livis can have defensive or survivability usefulness in certain early setups, but they are not usually officers you build around forever.
Faction and utility officers also fit here. They may be useful for certain dailies, missions, or away-team tasks, but they don’t usually deserve the same investment priority as your main hostile, PvP, or mining officers.
C-Tier STFC Officers
C-Tier officers are not useless. In Star Trek Fleet Command, many C-Tier officers still have a purpose, especially for newer players or accounts that do not have stronger crews unlocked yet. The issue is that these officers are usually temporary and eventually replaced by better options.
T’Pring, Stonn, Barot, Domitia, K’Bisch, and Helvia are useful examples of officers who may help with mining, resource efficiency, or early account needs. They are not exciting combat officers, but they can still save time if you are short on stronger specialists.
Pan and Joaquin can have early utility in certain mission, hostile, or movement-focused setups, but they are not usually long-term top bridge priorities once your officer roster improves.
Arkady Ivanov and Liviana Charvanek can help fill early crews or provide temporary bonuses, but most players will eventually move away from them as stronger PvE, PvP, mining, or below-deck options become available.
Grace Chen is a special case. She is not truly “C-Tier” for newer or midgame players. In fact, Chen can be one of the most important hostile-grinding officers for a long time. She only belongs lower on the list for players who have moved into stronger or more specialized PvE crews, such as modern Janeway-based setups or advanced hostile-specific crews.
In other words, C-Tier officers are usually worth using when they solve a specific problem. They are not, however, the first place most players should spend rare upgrade materials once better options are available.
D-Tier STFC Officers
D-Tier officers are mostly temporary filler, early-game stat sticks, or low-impact bridge options. They can still help when your roster is tiny, but they are rarely worth serious (if any) long-term investment.
Instructor Cadet Scotty, Cadet Sulu, Cadet Kirk, and Cadet Scotty can help very early players fill out crews, but they are usually replaced quickly by stronger Cadet, faction, or speciality officers.
Javaid, Vel K’Bentayr, Mara, Komal, Rukor, and M’Ral may offer minor bonuses or temporary use, but they don’t usually define strong PvE, PvP, mining, armada, or base-attack crews.
That does not mean you should never use them. If they are your best available option, use them. Just be careful with officer XP, shards, and promotion materials. D-Tier officers should usually be upgraded only when they are cheap, required, or helping you fill a short-term gap. Otherwise, save your precious resources!
Best STFC Officers by Game Mode and Role
Best Officers for PvE and Hostile Grinding
PvE is one of the most important parts of Star Trek Fleet Command because hostile grinding feeds dailies, events, ship XP, resource farming, faction reputation, and account progression. Best PvE officers and crews include:
| Officer / Crew | Best For | Why They’re Good |
|---|---|---|
| Janeway / Suder / Seska | PvE hostile grinding | Strong current PvE setup for the right accounts |
| Pike / Moreau / Chen | General hostile grinding | Classic hostile crew with long-term usefulness |
| Picard / Beverly / Chen | Alternative hostile grinding | Similar role for accounts with Picard/Beverly built |
| T’Laan | Interceptor hostile mitigation | Useful against interceptor-style hostiles |
| Hugh | PvE support and hostile grinding | Helpful in certain hostile setups |
| Cadet crews | Early PvE | Good starter option before better officers unlock |
For most players, PvE officers should be one of the first serious investments. You will fight thousands of hostiles over the life of your account, so even small efficiency gains will add up.
Best Officers for PvP
PvP officers are harder to rank because outcomes depend on ships, research, forbidden tech, artifacts, below-deck bonuses, ship abilities, and the enemy crew. Still, some officers are consistently important because they enable powerful combat mechanics.
| Officer | Best For | Why They’re Good |
|---|---|---|
| Khan | Longer PvP fights and base attacks | Damage scaling can become very dangerous |
| Gorkon | Hull breach setups | Helps create heavy damage windows |
| Kirk | Morale crews | Classic morale-based survivability and synergy |
| Spock | Morale support | Helps with shield restoration and survivability |
| Kras | PvP pressure | Useful in certain combat setups |
| Klaa | Burst and speed pressure | Can help aggressive PvP crews |
| Nero | Burning-style setups | Useful when paired with the right crew and ship |
| Honorguard Worf | PvP utility | Strong in certain combat-focused builds |
For PvP, don’t just blindly copy one crew. The best PvP crew depends on the ship, target, and combat triangle. A crew that works great against one player may completely fail against another if the ship matchup or below-deck setup is wrong.
Best Officers for Mining
Mining officers are some of the most valuable officers in Star Trek Fleet Command because mining is always relevant. You need resources for buildings, research, ships, territory, events, and long-term progression.
| Officer Type | Best For | Why They‘re Good |
|---|---|---|
| Parsteel mining officers | Parsteel farming | Improve mining speed and efficiency |
| Tritanium mining officers | Tritanium farming | Help with ship upgrades and repairs |
| Dilithium mining officers | Dilithium farming | Support research and upgrades |
| Crystal mining officers | Crystal nodes | Useful for ship and component needs |
| Gas mining officers | Gas nodes | Important for many upgrades |
| Ore mining officers | Ore nodes | Important for ship and research paths |
| Specialized mining officers | Specific resource types | Save time over repeated mining sessions |
Mining officers are not exciting, but they are practical. If you mine every day, stronger mining officers can quietly become some of the best long-term investments on your account.
Best Officers for Base Attacks
Base attacks are a more specific part of STFC, but the right officers can make a major difference when cracking stations or following up on weakened targets.
| Officer | Best For | Why They’re Good |
|---|---|---|
| Khan | Base cracking and long fights | Damage scaling can become powerful in longer engagements |
| Joachim | Khan-style station attacks | Commonly paired with Khan-style base attack setups |
| Kirk | Morale support | Helps with durability and morale synergy |
| Spock | Shield support | Can improve survivability in morale crews |
| Gorkon | Hull breach damage | Helps increase damage when paired correctly |
| Nero | Burning pressure | Useful in some station attack setups |
Base attacks depend heavily on ship strength, target defenses, research, and timing. Officers may be important, but they are only one piece of the setup.
Best Officers for Armadas
Armadas reward different crew choices than hostile grinding or PvP. You usually want crews that improve damage, reduce incoming damage, or support the group against tougher targets.
| Officer | Best For | Why They’re Good |
|---|---|---|
| Gaila | Armada mitigation | Helps reduce critical damage in the right setup |
| Kirk | Morale support | Useful in survivability-oriented crews |
| Spock | Shield sustain | Helps support morale crews |
| Khan | Damage scaling | Can help in longer fights |
| Nero | Burning synergy | Useful in specific damage setups |
| Utility officers | Specific armada types | Value depends on target and crew synergy |
Armada crews can vary a lot depending on the armada type, ship, and alliance strategy. If your alliance has a preferred armada setup, follow that first.
Best Below Deck Officers
Below-deck officers are easy to overlook, but they can make a major difference. They don’t need to sit on the bridge to matter, and many provide bonuses that improve survivability, damage, loot, or efficiency. Best below-deck officer types include:
- Officers that increase hull health.
- Officers that increase shield health.
- Officers that improve damage.
- Officers that improve hostile efficiency.
- Officers that improve PvP survivability.
- Officers that improve loot or resource gains.
- Officers with stats that strongly support your chosen ship.
Below decks become more important as your account grows. Early on, you can often get away with basic stat boosts. Later, good below-deck choices can separate a decent crew from a much stronger one.
Best Fleet Commanders in STFC
Fleet Commanders are separate from standard bridge officers, but they are important enough to mention because they can affect your overall account strategy. Strong Fleet Commander names to watch include:
- Kirk
- Spock
- Janeway
- Khan
- Sloan
- Lorca
- Seven of Nine
The best Fleet Commander depends on your priorities. Some are better for combat, some for progression, and some for specific account goals.
Best Officers for Beginners
New players should focus on officers that make daily progression easier instead of chasing every rare or premium officer immediately. Good beginner officer priorities include:
- Cadet Uhura, Cadet McCoy, and Instructor Spock for early crews.
- Chen and T’Laan for hostile mitigation.
- Pike and Moreau once they become available.
- Kirk and Spock for morale-based crews.
- Basic mining officers for daily resource farming.
- Any officer who helps you complete dailies, events, or hostile grinds more efficiently.
The goal early on is not to build the flashiest crew. It is to make your account smoother to play every day.
Best Officers to Upgrade First
If you are not sure who to upgrade first, prioritize officers that help with the most repeated activities. Recommended upgrade order:
- PvE hostile officers: because you fight hostiles constantly.
- Mining officers: because resource farming never stops.
- Core PvP officers: if you actively fight other players.
- Armada officers: if your alliance runs armadas often.
- Below-deck officers: especially once your bridge crews are stable.
- Niche officers: only when you need them for a specific crew or event.
Do not spread officer XP and shards too thin. A focused crew that does one important job well is usually better than a roster full of half-built officers.
