I can’t be the only person who has wondered if some of my Arc Raiders perks are actually doing anything, right? Well, it turns out that some skills in the extraction shooter only minorly increase your characters abilities, and some are more useless than others.
While this could eventually be patched in a future update as Embark Studios adds new map conditions before the second expedition date, currently the most useless Arc Raiders skill has been discovered by fans.
In the game, the Calming Stroll perk allows you to regain stamina while walking as if you’re standing completely still. However, after a lot of testing, player this-food9601 discovered that the assistance the skill brings is only negligible.
Alongside the standard walking, Arc Raiders also has a jogging speed which hits when you run out of stamina during a run. Not only does this start to regain your stamina, but it does so with you maintaining a higher speed than walking.
After a lot of testing and some complicated mathematics, the player determined that you’re actually running behind if you’re attempting to use the maxed out Calming Stroll perk to regain stamina.
“At the time the jogging friend reaches full stamina, you are not only ~0.7 meters behind, but also only have ~65% stamina remaining,” they discovered. “There is absolutely no justifiable reason to use Calming Stroll over default jogging if your goal is to get to a target location as fast as possible.”
While the perk does likely help in some short distance movement during a firefight, it’s largely useless for large distances. However, it could be improved in the future.
Really, a lot of skills in Arc Raiders offer rather small buffs with the sliding skill not really offering a much better slide than a new player. This is for balance reasons, so that new players aren’t massively underpowered, but it does also make some skills feel useless and not worth investing in.
