Bungie’s brilliant extraction shooter Marathon has been in our hands for less than a month, but the sci-fi shooter has seen rapid patches and updates to alleviate some of its sore spots. As the patches keep coming, game director Joseph Ziegler has confirmed new changes coming to the game.
Following the last patch, which eliminated a prominent movement exploit in the game, Ziegler has confirmed that the next two week’s patches will make some major changes to the game will be coming to the game.
“We’re looking to make some changes in the next couple of patches to adjust some of the outliers in the combat space that we’ve both seen in our observations and heard from your feedback across all of the various (and plentiful) channels we watch,” the game director said. “Some of these changes will be likely coming in the next patch, the next set will likely be arriving a week after.”
The upcoming patches will address the following issues:
- Bubble shields being too easy to get, too powerful to use
- The Knife scaling too easily to god like power levels
- Thermal scopes being too present and dominant
- Snipers being too strong in all scenarios
- Giving Vandal and Recon some more oomph to match their counterparts
Additionally, the patches will introduce a new item that “give solos a more common option when downed” as many firefights end with two players sliding around as they bleed out. Interestingly, Bungie is also looking to bring “a new item to give a more merciful option between crews”, whatever that actually means.
Ziegler explained that these patches will also come with “a lot more goodies” as the studio continues to follow its internal roadmap for “years” of additional updates.
“We’ve still got a big list of things we’re looking into that extends beyond this that will take us more time to figure out,” the game director told fans, “and we’ll update you as we continue to build on our evolving plans.”
While Bungie’s extraction shooter hasn’t sold particularly well, especially compared to a certain other extraction shooter, the game is a brilliant multiplayer game. While there’s still a lot of time left in the year, it might even be our game of the year at this point.
