A Nintendo Switch 2 port of Sandfall Interactiveโ€™s brilliant award-winning turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is reportedly in development.

The debut release for the French development studio, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has skyrocketed in popularity following a fairly tame pre-release period. Since its launch last April, the game has won more Game of the Year awards than any other game in existence.

According to renowned leaker Nate the Hate, Expedition 33 is planned to come to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. While few details were given surrounding the nature of the port, it is expected to release in 2026.

โ€œWe are going to see a lot more ports come to the Switch 2 in 2026 from a variety of franchises, and some of the ports I am aware of wonโ€™t surprise people, โ€œ the popular leaker said. โ€œTitles like Expedition 33 will be coming to Switch 2 in 2026.โ€

Alongside Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the leaker also claimed that Atlasโ€™ great-but-obscure Metaphor: Refantazio will be coming to the Nintendo platform sometime this year, which should give the game a second lease on life after a rather unexciting launch.

The leaker explained that โ€œthird party is really going to be the focus in 2026 for Switch, not to say that Nintendo is not going to have some fantastic games of their own in the calendar yearโ€. Following a rather muted year for third-party releases in 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to get a lot more ports this year.

As for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a port of the game does make sense. As a title thatโ€™s already been optimised for the Xbox Series S and is playable on Valveโ€™s Steam Deck, the RPG should have a fairly smooth ride for its conversion to Nintendo Switch 2.

On Xbox Series S, Sandfallโ€™s RPG was locked to 30fps, which will likely be the case for Switch 2 as well due to its lower-power CPU. However, as a title that already benefitted from the use of DLSS on PC, this could be another title that outperforms Series S in terms of image clarity in Docked Mode.

There is currently no official word or release date for a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but itโ€™s existence makes perfect sense. After all, as Sandfall spends years making its next gameโ€”which may not be another RPGโ€”itโ€™s wise to get another port out there if itโ€™s possible.
