While Football Manager 26 may not be going down well with some fans, there are still quite a lot of players jumping into Sports Interactive’s latest management simulator. It’s buggy, it’s annoying to learn, but it’s still FM, and the game still plays like FM.

If there’s one thing every Football Manager player loves, it’s a good release clause. None of that uncertainty over whether the club will accept your bid. Just a clean, set amount you have to pay to get your man. And if that amount happens to be miles under the player’s market value or actual ability? Even better.

But first off, what is a release clause in the first place? While most readers likely already know what these contracts are, for the unaware, a release clause is an amount put into a players contract that the selling club automatically have to accept. It is then up to the player whether they want to make the move once the release clause has been triggered, the selling club have no input. In Spain, it is mandatory to have a release clause in the contract. Whilst, in other leagues, the player may demand that a certain release clause is put in their contract.

Unfortunately, unless you’re extremely diligent or know the right search filters, you’ll probably miss out on golden deals that allow you to nab players up cheap as chips. Thankfully, I’ve done the hard work for you. Here are some of the best release clauses you can exploit in Football Manager 2026.

Raphinha – £69m

This one’s a bit baffling because, in real life, Raphinha’s release clause would surely be a few hundred million. But in FM26? It’s just £69 million. That’s right, an actual bargain release clause for a star player.

In today’s market, that’s an absolute steal. He arguably should’ve been in the Ballon d’Or conversation last season after racking up 62 goal contributions in all competitions. If you’re managing one of the elite clubs and he’s open to joining, this could genuinely be the best £69 million you’ll ever spend.

Nico Elvedi – £8.75m

The most important trait in FM26? Versatility. With the new in- and out-of-possession tactical systems, players who can cover multiple roles have become more valuable than ever. That’s exactly what Nico Elvedi offers — he’s comfortable across defence and midfield, and at £8.75m, he’s a ridiculous bargain.

The fact that Brentford are sniffing around him in my save tells you all you need to know. Buy him immediately.

Alex Meret – £17m

Need a rock-solid, top-level goalkeeper without breaking the bank? Look no further than Alex Meret.

Napoli’s stopper has a release clause of just £17 million, and at 28 years old, he’s got plenty of prime years left. With 17 reflexes, 16 handling, 16 jumping reach and 18 agility, you’re getting an elite keeper for the price of an average centre-back.

Angelo Stiller – £34.5m

Yes, he’s pricier than some of the others on this list at £34.5m, but almost everyone knows he’s absolutely worth it.

At just 24 years old, Angelo Stiller still has loads of room to develop and his attributes are already top-tier. 17 passing, 18 composure, 16 stamina… he’s basically the perfect midfielder for any modern system.

Whether you use him as a deep-lying playmaker or a box-to-box engine, he’s a player who’ll quietly run your midfield for years.

Juan Foyth – £36.5m

A few years ago, £36.5m for Juan Foyth might’ve felt a bit steep. But these days? For a Premier League-calibre player, it’s actually great value.

Foyth is the definition of a modern inside full-back. Technically excellent, positionally intelligent, and capable of slotting into multiple systems.

Is he going to single-handedly win you the league? Probably not. But in FM26, where tactical flexibility is king, he could be one of the most useful squad players you ever sign.

Mahmoud Dahoud – £3.95m

Okay, let’s be honest, Dahoud isn’t perfect. His physical and mental attributes are fairly average, especially if you’re managing a top-tier club. But for £3.95 million? He’s a no-brainer for any top Championship side or lower Premier League team.

He’s got 16 passing and 16 first touch, which makes him an ideal impact sub or creative option off the bench. Getting a player who’s featured in both the Bundesliga and Premier League for this price should honestly be illegal.

Alfonso Pedraza – £19m

If you’re looking for a wing-back tailor-made for the modern game, Alfonso Pedraza is your guy.

He’s got excellent physicals and mental attributes, and with 15 crossing, he’s the type of player who’ll deliver consistent quality from out wide. Get him bombing down the flank on an overlap and whipping crosses into the box, he’ll do the rest.

Long-time Football Manager players know how hard it is to find a good crosser at wing-back, so make the most of Pedraza while you can. The regens that come after him won’t even come close.

Want to find your own release-clause bargains? Here’s how: Go to Recruitment → Player Database → Edit Search → Add Condition → Contract → Clauses (Release) → Minimum Fee Release Clause.

That’ll show you who’s available and for how much. Let me know in the comments if there are any gems I’ve missed, or if you’ve found a bargain that’s too good to keep secret.
