With three different types of heroes, Marvel Rivals offers numerous team comps that can be viable. Each team should have at least one Vanguard (tank) and a Strategist (healer), while the rest of the squad can be filled with Duelists (damage dealers) or any other role.
Despite all of the variety, one team comp reigns supreme, so let’s check what it is.
Best Marvel Rivals team compositions in Season 5
1. The classic 2-2-2 composition
Over the past year, one team composition has been the best in Marvel Rivals, and that is a 2-2-2 composition. This is a balanced team that has two heroes in every role. It’s the best team comp by a large margin and also the most popular one, with a 58.96% pick rate as of late November.
While the classic composition dominates in every rank, it’s especially effective in high ELO lobbies, being nearly 10 percentage points better than the second-best comp.
- Win rate: 54.06%
- Pick rate: 58.96%
- Win rate (Celestial+): 53.80%
Composition example: Groot, Doctor Strange, Namor, Hela, Jeff the Land Shark, Mantis
It’s important to note that there is no one-size-fits-all for hero picks in any team comp. You should play heroes you are most comfortable with, while also paying attention to team-ups and the enemy roster.
2. Three Duelists
As of Season 5, Marvel Rivals has 43 playable heroes, and 23 of them are Duelists. Due to this, it’s no surprise that many players opt for the composition with three damage dealers, which is the second-most-popular formation. This team composition sacrifices a Vanguard in favor of more damage, which can be effective.

While going with three Duelists can be fun, it’s only effective in low-ELO lobbies. In fact, this team composition has a positive win rate only in the Bronze rank.
- Win rate: 47.24%
- Pick rate: 16.26%
- Win rate (Celestial+): 44.20%
Composition example: Magneto, Wolverine, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, Rocket Raccoon, Luna Snow
What’s the best team composition in Marvel Rivals?
Without any doubt, the best team comp in Marvel Rivals is 2-2-2. This is a balanced composition that is effective in every single rank, from Bronze to Eternity. The choice of your heroes is also important, since you will need to make changes to counter the enemy team.
3. Three Strategists with one Vanguard
Strategists can be surprisingly versatile in Marvel Rivals, as they can both heal and deal damage. Their ultimate abilities are also among the strongest in the game, and good timing on them can easily turn the tide in a match. Thanks to this, some teams choose a composition with three Strategists, despite its sub-optimal success rate.
Once again, this composition sacrifices a tank, leaving the team exposed to enemy attacks.
- Win rate: 43.33%
- Pick rate: 10.60%
- Win rate (Celestial+): 38.84%
Composition example: Doctor Strange, The Punisher, Mister Fantastic, Cloak & Dagger, Ultron, Loki
4. Three Strategists with one damage dealer
Another popular team composition in Marvel Rivals is a 2-1-3. This composition has two tanks, yet only one damage dealer. While this composition increases the team’s survivability and looks decent on paper, the truth is that it’s not viable in almost any rank.

This team composition can be successful if one of the Strategists is Adam Warlock, who has amazing damage potential and can be deadly in the right hands.
- Win rate: 45.43%
- Pick rate: 10.14%
- Win rate (Celestial+): 44.28%
Composition example: Peni Parker, Magneto, Iron Man, Ultron, Luna Snow, Adam Warlock
Other team compositions
All the other team comps in Marvel Rivals have a pick rate of 2% or lower. While you may be successful going with a 2-1-3 comp, we don’t recommend experimenting further than that. The fifth most effective composition is 3-1-2, which is victorious in only 37% of games.
Being familiar with multiple heroes and different roles is a huge bonus, as you will be able to switch to whatever your team needs. Due to this, we advise you to learn how to play at least three heroes in every role and to fill for your team. This will drastically increase your chances of winning, and you’ll be able to rank up much faster.
Why Team-Up Synergies Stay Meta?
While adhering to the 2-2-2 role structure provides balance, the true potential of a competitive team comp in Marvel Rivals is unlocked through Team-Up synergy. Team-Up abilities are highly impactful, combined moves that two compatible heroes can execute, often representing the most powerful utility or damage output available. A successful team composition is built not just on filling the roles of Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist, but on selecting heroes whose Team-Up abilities create decisive advantages. Ignoring these synergies means leaving one of the most potent gameplay tools unused.
