Hangar 13’s Mafia: The Old Country has launched to decent reviews and seemingly good sales. Following the open-world Mafia 3 (check out our interview with Lincoln Clay actor Alex Hernandex here), the latest release ditched the open world formula for a gorgeous, but more linear, adventure.

While the game has only been out for a month, it seems that a sequel is already in pre-production at Hangar 13. According to voice actor Carina Conti, who plays Isabella Torrisi in the action game, the game’s follow-up has already been greenlit.

Speaking on a livestream with YouTuber Bubbly Nuggets, Conti explained that another game in the series is already in some form of production. When asked whether 2K had approved another title, the actor responded: “They were approved for another Mafia game, this is true.”

Despite Conti’s statements, 2K or Hangar 13 have not officially stated whether Mafia: The Old Country will be receiving a sequel, although the studio has a reputation for making games in this long-running series. It’s also not known if the next Mafia game will be a direct sequel or follow a new cast similar to other games in the franchise.

However, The Old Country does end in a way where a follow-up is certainly possible, especially in regards to Isabella, who Conti plays. There is certainly a future for the character – more so than a lot of the game’s cast – and it could be an interesting way forward to keep the series situated in its current time period.

As for the success of Mafia: The Old Country, the game managed to sell over 800,000 copies in just four days. While not a major hit like its predecessor Mafia 3, which sold over 7 million copies, the game’s lower budget may mean that it’s actually performed decently. After all, despite its higher sales, Mafia 3 needed over 8 million sales to be deemed a success.

Mafia: The Old Country is available right now on PC, Xbox Series and PlayStation 5.
