With the arrival of the Amphoreus arc and the expansion of the Remembrance and Elation paths, the Honkai Star Rail meta has once again shifted significantly. Investing your hard-earned Stellar Jades into new characters is no small task with the prospect of tackling the Memory of Chaos (MoC), Pure Fiction (PF), and the gruelling Apocalyptic Shadow. Some are simply not worth the pull, while some banners are must-haves. Our Honkai Star Rail tier list ranks every character from S to D-Tier based on their versatility, raw power, and performance in the current endgame content with the April 2026 meta in mind.

S-Tier Characters

These characters are the undisputed kings and queens of the Astral Express. They offer irreplaceable utility or damage that can “brute force” almost any content.

Phainon (Remembrance/DPS) is currently the strongest DPS in the game. His Ultimate form makes him nearly indestructible while dealing astronomical damage.Meanwhile, Castorice (Remembrance/Sub-DPS) is considered by many to be a “broken” unit with a global passive ability that affects the entire battlefield, making her a shoe-in for high-score Pure Fiction runs.

Sunday (Harmony) is easily the ultimate Hypercarry support. With his ability to action-forward both characters and summons/memosprites, he has revitalized older units while making new ones god-tier. Last one to spotlight is The Herta (Erudition), the “Emanator” version of Herta. She has completely taken over the Erudition niche, outclassing almost every other AoE damage dealer.

A-Tier Characters

A-Tier units are incredibly powerful but may require specific team archetypes (like Break or Follow-up) to reach their maximum potential.

While slightly edged out by Phainon in raw versatility, Feixiao and Acheron remain the gold standard for deleting bosses in MoC and Apocalyptic Shadow. Firefly continues to dominate the “Super Break” meta. If an enemy has a Fire weakness, Firefly will make sure that they never get a turn. Tribbie (Quantum/Harmony) represents a massive buff for Quantum teams and general AoE setups, often rivalling Robin in specific compositions.

B-Tier Characters

These characters are great picks if you have their ideal gear and teammates. They can clear all endgame content, but aren’t as “effortless” as the higher tiers.

Boothill is still the king of single-target physical break, though he faces stiff competition from newer Hunt units. Meanwhile, both Silver Wolf and Sparkle are your classic supports. While Sunday and Robin have taken some of their spotlight, their ability to manipulate weaknesses and Skill Points remains top-tier.

C-Tier Characters

C-Tier characters are functional and can clear content, but they usually have a “premium” version (for example, Jingliu vs. Phainon) that does their job better.

Many will recognize Jingliu and Dan Heng โ€ข IL as the former titans of the 1.x era. They still deal great damage, but their high SP consumption or lack of synergy with new “Memosprite” mechanics hold them back. Gallagher is still the best F2P sustain in the game. He stays relevant in C-Tier purely because of his incredible synergy with Firefly and Break teams. Lastly, Bronya, while still great, has been largely overshadowed by Sunday, who offers similar action-forwarding with fewer drawbacks.

D-Tier Characters

Characters here are usually power-crept or require extremely high investment to compete with newer units.

Seele was the original queen of HSR. Nowadays, she struggles in the 3.x meta where enemy HP pools are too large for her “Resurgence” to trigger consistently. Himeko and Herta remain “Pure Fiction Specialists.” They are easily A-Tier in that specific mode but fall to D-Tier in MoC or Apocalyptic Shadow due to low single-target scaling. Tingyun is still a solid 4-star, but with the abundance of 5-star Harmony units, she is no longer a mandatory build for veteran players.

E-Tier Characters

These characters are generally not recommended for investment unless they are your personal favourites.

For example, Yanqingโ€™s requirement to never take damage is too restrictive for modern, aggressive boss encounters. On the other hand, Bailu and Natasha lack a “Cleanse” mechanic or offensive buffs, meaning that these healers have been entirely replaced by Lynx (F2P) and 5-star sustains like Lingsha. To round out the lowest-tier examples, Arlan is the epitome of high risk with very little reward compared to the low-risk, high-damage output of 3.x Destruction units.

Best HSR Team Compositions for January 2026

You need more than just high-tier units to maximize your rank, you also need synergy. Here are our picks for the best teams in the current meta:

  1. The Remembrance Freeze Core: Phainon + Castorice + Sunday + Aventurine.
  2. The Premium FUA (Follow-Up) Team: Feixiao + Robin + Topaz & Numby + Lingsha.
  3. The Super Break Squad: Firefly + Harmony Trailblazer + Fugue + Gallagher (or Lingsha).
  4. The Nihility Nuke: Acheron + Jiaoqiu + Silver Wolf (or Pela) + Aventurine.

Upcoming Characters to Watch

Keep your eyes on the Version 4.0 Planarcadia update, which is rumoured to introduce Elation path specialists like Sparxie and Yao Guang, who are expected to shake up the Follow-Up Attack meta significantly. Once the update is out, we will update our tier list accordingly, so stay tuned!

How We Rank HSR Characters

Our tier list is put together and evaluated based on three primary endgame modes:

  • Memory of Chaos (MoC): This mode focuses on elite boss killing and cycle efficiency.
  • Pure Fiction (PF): This mode focuses on multi-wave AoE clearing.
  • Apocalyptic Shadow (AS): This mode focuses on Weakness Break mechanics and boss gimmicks.

FAQ:

Who is the best character in Honkai Star Rail 2026?

  • Currently, Phainon is widely considered the best DPS, while Sunday and Robin share the title for the best Support units.

Is Seele still good in 2026?

  • Seele has fallen to D-Tier due to “stat-stick” power creep and the shift toward AoE and Break-focused mechanics, though she can still clear content with high investment.

Which healer should I use?

  • Lingsha and Huohuo are the top offensive healers, while Aventurine and Dan Heng โ€ข Permansor Terrae are the best for pure survival.

To wrap up, staying on top of the HSR meta requires more than just good gameplay, it requires the resources to pull for these elite units.
