Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank developer Insomniac Games is reportedly working on a Venom spin-off game to release after its in-development Wolverine title.
Following a massive mega-leak of the studio in late-2023, Insomniac Games has been extremely quiet regarding its upcoming projects. However, according to MP1st, that silence is set to be broken as the studio plans on a 2026 release for Wolverine.
In a new report, it’s claimed that the long-awaited Wolverine PS5 game is set to release next year. However, somewhat more excitingly, the studio is working on a Venom spin-off game that will follow on from the events of Spider-Man 2.
According to the outlet, this Venom game is in “active development” at Insomniac Games and will feature Eddie Brock as the game’s protagonist. Brock is described as being closer to his buff comic book than his Tom Hardy movie appearance.
The report claims that the main villain of the game will be Cleatus Cassidy, aka Carnage, who appeared in Spider-Man 2 and was set to appear in a scrapped DLC. Additionally, the game will feature some form of Anti-Venom, which was last seen in Spider-Man 2 controlled by Peter Parker.
Insomniac Games’ Venom spin-off is expected to release in late 2027, but plans can always change. On top of this title, Insomniac is also reportedly working on a third mainline Spider-Man title that will feature Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, to some degree.
It’s obvious that the massive hack that hit Insomniac Games two years ago has massively shifted production at the studio. Multiple projects have been canned, including the multiplayer Spider-Verse spin-off and the aforementioned DLC for the second game.
Unfortunately, for fans of Insomniac’s other works, there’s no mention of Ratchet and Clank, Resistance or Sunset Overdrive follow-ups in development with the future of the company seemingly reliant on continued work on Marvel IP instead of original projects.
