TT Games’ LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has reportedly sold 1.2 million copies since launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
As the first LEGO game since the fine-but-not-loved LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Legacy of the Dark Knight is essentially a LEGO Arkham game. According to renowned analytics firm Alinea Analytics, the game has sold 1.2 million copies over the last week.
Via the analytics firm, the game has sold around the same number of copies as Bungie’s Marathon. These sales come after early leaks for the game alongside a cracked PC version which was shared online prior to launch.
According to the analytics firm—which correctly revealed sales numbers for Arc Raiders, Battlefield 6, and more—LEGO Batman has sold significantly more copies on console. The data shows that 612,000 copies were sold on PlayStation 5 whereas 289,000 copies were sold on Xbox Series consoles. A rarity for most releases these days, PC came in third place with the lowest sales numbers of the three. On Steam, the game sold 249,000 copies.
Alinea reports that “release timing was bad for this one” with the game’s release coming extremely close to the sales juggernaut of Forza Horizon 6. “Our launch estimates for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight are healthy without being spectacular,” the analytics firm reported,”and the audience composition data in the full piece tells us this is a household title doing what household titles do.”
For comparison, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga sold a total of 5 million units by June 2022, two months after launch. That game also became the fifth best-selling game of 2022 in the United States.
While these sales numbers aren’t particularly great for a game of this budget, it’s not the end for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The LEGO game is set to release on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, which could give the game a second wind.
Furthermore, LEGO games typically have long tails due to frequent sales after launch, especially surrounding holidays. While LEGO Batman’s sales aren’t that great right now, the game may end up clawing back additional sales over time.
