Iron Man VR studio Camouflaj is working on a sequel to the popular virtual reality spin-off Batman Arkham Shadow. Following the massive success of the 2024 virtual reality game, Camouflaj is working on a full sequel for VR gamers.
The news was confirmed by actor Mark Rolston who played Commissioner Jim Gordon in the Meta Quest 3 exclusive VR game. Speaking to Culture Combine, and spotted by UploadVR, the actor confirmed that a second game is in development.
It seems that Camouflaj’s sequel is still in early development with actors just starting to record their roles for the upcoming video game. In the interview, Rolston discussed the differences between working on Blade Runner and Spider-Man 2, explaining that the latter title required “complete motion capture, voice, and everything”.
“Same thing with the Batman Arkham Shadow VR game. We’re about to start another one of those. I play Commissioner Gordon,” the actor told the outlet.
Batman Arkham Shadow may not be as popular as other games in the Arkham series of games, but it has been a fairly high performing game for virtual reality. With a seriously low attach rate of VR games for VR headsets—and the fact that the game was exclusive to just one Meta Quest headset—the game managed to shift over 1 million units.
Nevertheless, it seems that the buzz of the Dark Knight was good enough for Meta and developer Camouflaj with another game now in the works. With the game’s Arkham combat perfectly replicated in virtual reality, the framework of the series is already down pat, the turnaround on a sequel should hopefully be quick.
As soon as the original game released, director Ryan Payton explained that the team would love to work on a sequel if both Meta and Warner Bros signed off on the project.
“We hope we make it a really easy decision for leadership over at Meta and at Warner Brothers to tap us on the shoulders to do a sequel,” Payton said. “We would very much love to do that.”
In the interview, Payton explained that the “most challenging things you can do as a game developer is to start something from scratch”, explaining that it would be much easier to pump out a sequel now that the base of the experience is already complete.
There is no release date for the Batman Arkham Shadow sequel at the time of writing.
