Bungie’s online FPSMMO Destiny 2 has plummeted to never-before-seen levels of negative reception. Following a number of poor decisions over the past few years, the game’s new The Edge of Fate expansion “the worst week in the entire history of” the online shooter.
A new mid-sized expansion, The Edge of Fate has pushed the MMO to be a more solitary experience with the use of the Portals menu, a boring new campaign, and an annoying grind push that simply makes the whole of Destiny 2 feel worse as a result.
Bungie’s latest expansion was immediately clocked as the worst-rated expansion in the game’s history on release back in August with the lowest player counts ever for a new D2 expansion. While player counts have stabilised, players are still leaving reviews for the DLC, and they are dismal.
At the time of writing, via PCGamesN, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate has hit the “Overwhelmingly Negative” level of reception on Steam. Over the last 30 days, just 9% of reviews left for the expansion have been positive with players sporting thousands of hours leaving scathing reviews.
“I have 17,000hrs in the game. Yup. 17k hours and I am gonna give 1/10 review on EoF,” one player explained. “I haven’t logged in for past 3 weeks after 10yrs of playing the series – You should simply stay away from THIS GAME and THIS GREEDY COMPANY.”
“This hurts to write. After 5,000+ hours across every expansion, Edge of Fate broke something in me that I didn’t think was possible – it made me fall out of love with Destiny,” said another.

While Edge of Fate has been blasted by players, so has the main game’s Steam page with the MMO dropping to “Mixed” in its recent reviews. Over the last 30 days, just 45% of players have left positive reviews with many complaining about the direction that Bungie continues to push the game.
“It’s a shell of a game that’s been abused, butchered, and cannibalised by live service game development,” one player with 4,710 hours said after the release of The Edge of Fate.
On the game’s subreddit, one popular post called the last week the “worst week in the entire history of Destiny” with long-time players saying they “don’t think Bungie has ever been THIS out of touch with their community ever”.
With Bungie continuing to build on top of the already-exhausted frame of Destiny 2 instead of developing the third game players gave been clamouring for, as well as working on the controversial Marathon game, it seems that the MMO is simply stuck with no clear way forward.
