Despite cutting 1,000 jobs earlier this year, Epic Games still has big plans for Fortnite. The company is reportedly working on a Disney-themed extraction shooter, similar to Arc Raiders. The new mode is expected to launch in November and may be part of the broader Fortnite x Disney collaboration.
The extraction shooter genre has surged in popularity lately, with games like Arc Raiders and Escape From Tarkov attracting millions of players. Epic, however, has a fun twist to implement, which is Disney characters. According to four current and former employees, per Bloomberg, Disney characters will play a major role in the upcoming game.
Some employees have expressed concerns about the game’s mechanics, while others remain optimistic.
Fortnite’s maker is creating an Arc Raider-style game with Disney characters
Released in late 2025, Arc Raiders has become one of the most popular games over the past few months. It peaked at nearly half a million concurrent players on Steam and has millions of players in total, despite not being a free game. Now, it appears that Epic is trying to copy that formula.
Back in 2024, Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games, which marked a major milestone in the partnership. The two companies have collaborated many times in the past, with Fortnite even having several Disney-exclusive seasons. Now, it appears that we are months away from a new extraction game, which might be implemented in Fortnite.
According to Bloomberg, Epic is on track to release its first game with the Disney partnership in November 2026.

As we are still half a year away from the game’s launch, details remain limited, other than its genre. It appears that several Epic Games employees have expressed concerns over the game’s mechanics, citing a lack of originality. Others, however, believe that the company will get them right before the game comes out.
The Epic x Disney partnership will result in at least two more games in addition to the extraction shooter. One of these games had its resources reallocated after Disney was reportedly disappointed by Epic’s release timeline.
As we wait for the launch of Epic’s extraction shooter, Disney seems to be interested in buying the game maker. This could be a massive move that would change the gaming industry landscape, and it would almost certainly affect Fortnite, Epic’s biggest game, and its future.
