Fortnite’s collection of cosmetics thrives on pop culture crossovers, especially skins and emotes. Over the past few years, Epic Games has collaborated with hundreds of companies to bring some of the most iconic characters to the popular game. Unfortunately, some of these collaborations have been involved in legal problems.

One of the recent additions, a Bye Bye Bye emote, may be vaulted forever. The choreographed dance is tied to a lawsuit, which could affect its availability in Fortnite. The emote was last available in September 2024, and the legal trouble may explain why.

Fortnite may not bring the Bye Bye Bye emote ever again

Fortnite released the Bye Bye Bye emote on September 24, 2024, in collaboration with Marvel. The dance, which uses music by NSYNC and choreography by Darrin Henson, gained a lot of popularity after being featured in Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest Deadpool movie released in 2024.

The movie grossed over $1.3 billion, becoming one of the most successful movies of all time. However, Henson filed a lawsuit against Sony Music Holdings, alleging the unauthorized utilization of his choreographic work. The lawsuit was filed on March 27, and if the choreographer wins it, the Fortnite emote might be vaulted forever.

Epic Games was not named in a lawsuit, but regardless, the outcome of the lawsuit will likely affect the in-game emote.

Interestingly, the Bye Bye Bye emote was available for purchase for only six days. Epic released it on September 24, removing it from the shop on September 29. The emote is already rare, and the recent lawsuit could potentially make it one of the rarest items in Fortnite of all time.

In other news, Epic has teased the return of a controversial Fresh emote from 2017. This emote was also involved in a legal controversy and has become the rarest emote in the game. However, its return might be around the corner.

While waiting for the lawsuit outcome, players can unlock a couple of free skins in Fortnite in only a few minutes. On top of this, Fortnite XP maps offer a great way to level up quickly and unlock more cosmetics and V-Bucks.
