Fortnite Sidekicks have gained a lot of popularity since their release in November 2025. Initially, the community was against these cosmetic items, mostly due to their prices and the lack of customization options. However, the situation has changed lately, and many Sidekicks have been the best-sellers.
With every update, Epic Games adds more companion pets, and the latest one was no exception. The last update of 2025 brought a couple of fan-favorite pets to Fortnite, including Kitsune and a llama. Considering that Kitsune was obtainable in the past as a back bling, there is a chance that it will be free.
Will the Kitsune Sidekick be free for all Fortnite players?
Back in Season X, Epic released Kitsune as a pet back bling. The cosmetic item was obtainable through the Battle Pass, and players needed to reach tier 28 to unlock it. Now, more than six years later, Kitsune will be a Sidekick.
The Kitsune Sidekick will not be given to all Fortnite players for free. However, players who own it as a back bling may receive it automatically when it comes out. The release date of the fan-favorite pet is currently unknown, but we expect Kitsune to hit the Item Shop by the first week of 2026.

Now, we have to clarify that Epic did not confirm that the Kitsune Sidekick will be free. However, the Fortnite creator did this for Bonesy, who was another Battle Pass back bling that was turned into a companion pet. Everyone who owned Bonesy as a back bling received him as a Sidekic, and we hope that it will be the case for Kitsune.
