With Epic Games laying off 1,000 employees on Tuesday, Fortnite may undergo a major overhaul. The game developer will shift its focus to core modes, improving the battle royale experience and releasing new content for it. At the same time, Fortnite will discontinue three major game modes in April.

Back in Chapter 5, Epic released numerous game modes in Fortnite, including LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing. Unfortunately, these modes haven’t performed as expected, which is likely why the company is shutting some of them down in a few weeks. More specifically, Fortnite will discontinue Rocket Racing, Ballistic, and one part of the Festival experience.

Which game modes will Fortnite remove?

Fortnite will remove Rocket Racing, Ballistc, and Festival Battle Stage modes on April 16. All of these modes will go offline with the v40.20 update, which will be the second major update of Chapter 7 Season 2.

The removal of Rocket Racing also removes UEFN Islands built with this template. On top of this, Epic Games will remove all the Rocket Racing quests in the last week of March. However, it’s important to note that this change will not affects cars as cosmetic items, as they will still be available in Battle Royale and other modes.

UEFN will keep receiving car-exclusive updates, including car physics, hazards, and track-building tools in April.

Ballistic, which is a first-person tactical game mode, will also leave Fortnite in April. While first-person tools will remain active in UEFN, it won’t be possible to fully recreate this game mode due to the lack of features, such as custom weapons. Fortunately, UEFN will receive more features in the future, and custom weapons should arrive in the second quarter of 2026.

Finally, Festival Battle Stage, a PvP mode of Fortnite Festival, will also be cut in April. The other music game modes will remain untouched, and Epic has announced improvements to Main Stage and Jam Stage coming in the future.

While Fortnite is removing these three modes in April, Save the World will become free for everyone. This PvE mode offers co-op adventure with hundreds of hours of content.
