There are a lot of open-world games, and every one of them has a lot of content. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is one such open-world game, but developer TT Games made sure it wasn’t stuffed with an overbearing amount of content.
Coming not long after the massive open-world of Crimson Desert, some players were worried that the massive collection of activities on LEGO Batman’s map would take forever to complete. While many players love games with near-endless amounts of content, it can also be frustrating to some.
Speaking to fans on social media, LEGO Batman lead game designer Tim Spencer explained that the team purposefully wanted to avoid overwhelming players with options. “A lot of folks mentioned that the map looks like it’ll take forever to complete – well, good news: IT DOESN’T!” they said.
Spencer explained that the team “very deliberately (and repeatedly) looked at the content for quality+value for money”, offering to keep “respecting the players time” instead of adding content for content’s sake. As it turns out, more content isn’t always good as players can disconnect sooner if quality is sacrificed for quantity.
“It’s a difficult line to tread,” Spencer continued, “and there’s always going to be people who want more, and also people who don’t have the time. I personally think the 100% complete time is pretty good, and happily slots in between whatever live service/ongoing game you main.”
On launch, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight takes around 13 hours to complete its main story. Completionists have managed to finish the whole game and unlock the PS5 version’s Platinum Trophy in around 40 hours or so.
With that said, there is additional content coming to LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight in the future. While a massive post-launch DLC structure hasn’t been announced, the new game will be getting a Joker and Harley Quinn later this September.
The Mayhem Collection, as it’s called, will not only make the two villains playable with their own abilities, but also introduce a new story mission seeing the duo break out of Arkham Asylum and cause chaos around Gotham City. Additional mission DLCs have not been confirmed.
