Marvel Rivals players are losing hundreds of Units to a simple mistake in the in-game shop, and you might be one of them. The store offers a variety of cosmetics, and most of them are sold as bundles. However, if you purchase skins separately, you could end up spending significantly more currency.
In a way, Marvel Rivals has a hidden tax that you will pay after purchasing individual skins. To make matters worse, this tax is nowhere to be seen in the game, as it only appears after you buy a skin. Fortunately, it’s easy to avoid it, as long as you know what to look for.
Marvel Rivals has odd pricing for bundles
The issue lies in how the game calculates the cost of a bundle after you already own part of it. If a standard skin bundle, which typically includes a skin, an emote, a nameplate, and a spray, costs 1600 Units, it will cost a lot more if you buy the items separately. Due to this, you should buy the entire bundle if you want all the items included in the set.
However, many players make the mistake of buying just the skin first, which costs 1400 Units. They might think they can upgrade to the rest of the bundle later for a low price, but the game’s math doesn’t work in their favor. The remaining cost of the bundle is often much higher than the difference, which can only be seen after the purchase.

If you buy the skin for 1400 Units, the price to complete the rest of the bundle becomes 564 Units. This brings your total spend to 1964 Units. By splitting the purchase, you are effectively throwing away 364 Units.
Now, the game does show that the bundle is discounted at first. However, there is no indication of how much it will cost after you buy a skin. Due to this, buying the skin separately is a bad choice that will cost you in the long run if you ever decide you want the matching emote or spray later.
Fortunately, you can still unlock free Units from the Anniversary event, and even more after you view and share your Rivals Rewind. If the in-game shop doesn’t have any cosmetics that you like, check out all the active Marvel Rivals codes to score free items.
