Marvel Rivals readjusts controversial Season 7 balance changes after community backlash

Marvel Rivals Season 7 Captain America change

The initial Marvel Rivals Season 7 buffs and nerfs drew a lot of criticism from the community. Players generally didn’t like the balance changes NetEase prepared for the new season, which is why the developer has decided to adjust them. The biggest change is the rework of Captain America’s abilities, which should now be in a better spot.

As we approach the release of Marvel Rivals Season 7, NetEase has released details about a hotfix. Besides Captain America, the game developer buffed Emma Frost and Black Panther. On the other hand, Gambit received another downgrade to his abilities.

New Marvel Rivals buffs and nerfs

NetEase initially nerfed Captain America’s Ultimate and made his shield throws smoother during sprints, but the changes drew mixed reactions from the community. In response, the devs reworked his Sentinel Strike combo so that sprinting no longer cancels shield throws, improving consistency at the cost of slightly slower execution (less than 0.3 seconds in total), while also buffing his close-range damage.

In addition, the hotfix also increased damage dealt by the first two hits of Sentinel Strike from 40 to 45.

Emma Frost is another Vanguard who received a nerf in the initial patch. While the White Queen’s ultimate ability was improved, her Diamond Form damage reduction was reduced from 25% to 20%. Fortunately, NetEase fixed this by lowering the cooldown on her Diamond Form by 3 seconds and increasing Mind’s Aegis recovery rate from 70/s to 80/s.

The balance change in Marvel Rivals should make Emma a powerful pick, and while her Diamond Form won’t be as powerful defensively as before, it will be available more frequently.

Finally, Black Panther received even more buffs with a hotfix. In the first update, T’Challa’s cooldown for jumping after detaching from a wall was removed, as well as the cooldown on the second jump of Subtle Step. The hotfix introduced the following changes:

  • Spinning Kick New Effect: The dash movement is now omnidirectional. T’Challa is no longer bound to a flat plane!
  • Increase Spinning Kick Damage from 70 to 75.
  • Reduce Spear Toss recovery time per charge from 6s to 5s.

Finally, Gambit received an additional nerf with the hotfix. Initially, NetEase adjusted his ultimate ability to reduce ultimate ability charge to allies and movement speed, while increasing additional single-target explosive damage by 5%. The hotfix further adjusted Gambit’s ultimate ability, reducing its duration from 10 to 8 seconds.

While these balance changes are not perfect, they show that NetEase listens to the community and is willing to make necessary adjustments. Because of this, more buffs and nerfs will likely follow shortly after the release of Marvel Rivals Season 7.
