Nvidia has restored PhysX support to older games on PC for gamers using expensive 50 Series GPUs inn the latest GeForce Game Ready Driver.
Alongside optimisations for Battlefield 6 and other titles, the new Nvidia Game Ready driver focuses on restoring 32-bit GPU-accelerated PhysX performance on newer hardware.
When Nvidia released the 50 Series GPUs at the start of 2025, the graphics cards came alongside the phasing out of 32-bit CUDA support. This meant that older games that used PhysX effects—such as Batman: Arkham City’s incredible smoke effects—resulted in terrible performance on new hardware.
Until today, there was only one real solution to restore PhysX performance for 50 Series GPU users: installing a second, older GPU entirely to run PhysX calculations. However, with this new Game Ready Driver, gamers will be able to play older games without massive performance drops.
However, it seems that PhysX support is not perfect for every game with Nvidia announcing “custom support” for the “top played PhysX-accelerated games”. Nevertheless, games that have been targeted should have “full performance on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, in line with its existing PhysX support on prior generation GPUs”.
At the time of writing, the following games are completely fixed on 50 Series GPUs:
- Alice: Madness Returns
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
- Batman: Arkham City
- Batman: Arkham Origins
- Borderlands 2
- Mafia II
- Metro 2033
- Metro: Last Light
- Mirror’s Edge
However, Nvidia is also working to bring full support for additional games that make use of its older technology. The company announced that Batman: Arkham Asylum support will be added in a driver update “in the first part of 2026”. With this in mind, it seems that restoring PhysX support for specific games on 50 Series GPUs is not an easy feat.
