Launching alongside The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, Nintendo is releasing a beautiful Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console. Unfortunately, the console has been out of stock since the day of its reveal.

While some fans have managed to get their pre-orders in for the new limited edition console, others have struggled. Nintendo Store queues were hours long and stock dried up fast, especially as scalpers rushed to get units to sell at high markups.

In a discussion with YouTube channel Coelho no Japão, Nintendo of Latin America VP and GM Bill van Zyll revealed that there will be a restock for all of the Zelda 40th Anniversary consoles and peripherals.

“We are working on replenishments of the special hardware and software,” he said, hinting that the special foil cover physical editions of Ocarina of Time Remake could also come back. “But it’ll take a little of time,” he added.

As for why the Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 consoles and peripherals ran out so quickly, well, it’s not all to do with scalping. Van Zyll explained that Nintendo simply “underestimated” the demand for the special console versions.

“It’s a global phenomenon,” he said. “We have this issue everywhere. We apologise for that. That certainly wasn’t the intent… We underestimated how well it would be received, and there are certainly some markets that stand out”.

The Nintendo executive specifically pointed out the shortages in North America, highlighting the US audience’s fervour for the physical game and peripherals. At the time of writing, the US as a region is the most digital-focused region with physical game sales taking up a smaller percentage in the region, but physical copies of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake rapidly sold out in the country.

Nevertheless, Nintendo is working to bring additional stock to all regions, although it’s not known if the new hardware will release in time for launch. With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake just weeks away—November 4th, 2026—fans may have to wait a bit longer to grab a Limited Edition console, controller, or a special physical version of the game.
