Following years of rising prices for PS5 consoles and PlayStation services, Sony is reportedly decreasing the amount of storage available in its PS5 Digital Edition consoles, starting with Europe.
According to prominent retail leaker Billbil-Kun, who frequently reveals new console bundles before their official announcements, new PlayStation 5 Digital Edition consoles will now have their internal storage cut from a rounded 1TB to 825GB.
The leaker explains that the base PS5, which comes with a disc drive, will continue to keep its 1TB storage size for the time being. However, as of September 13, 2025, the Digital Edition will now have less storage. For now, this cut seemingly only affects consoles sold in Europe.
Most egregiously, Sony will continue to charge the same €499 price tag for the PS5 Digital Edition as it has been for the 1TB model. This price is already more expensive than the disc-less console was on its original launch day which saw the console at a more reasonable €399 price tag.
Sony has yet to officially confirm the storage cuts to the PlayStation 5 console at the time of writing. However, considering the previous reputation of the retail leaker – which is extremely accurate – it seems very likely that European gamers will once again face another blow with this move.
Sony’s PS5 pricing structure has been continuously increasing, especially since the arrival of the Trump Administration’s tariffs for the United States. However, despite recently raising prices in the US, Sony is continuing to stick other countries with the bill for the actions of North America’s current government.
