The Pokemon Company has confirmed that Pokemon Unite will officially shut down in just a few months.

Released in 2021, the free-to-play MOBA spin-off game has seen over 200 million downloads across the world. Unfortunately, the game’s success is seemingly not enough as the MOBA will now shut down on March 23, 2027.

In just five months, Pokemon Unite will go offline. The game previously ended support in the Netherlands and Belgium back in November 2025. At the time, fans across the world believed other countries would quickly follow, and they were right.

As of today. The Pokemon Company is suspending sales of in-game content. This means that the game’s UNITE Club Membership, in-game currency, and any additional paid services are now offline.

While the game is shutting down, pro players will have one last hurrah. At the time of writing, the 2027 Pokemon Unite Aeos Crown tournament is continuing without cancellation. This will be the game’s last official tournament.

While online services will be cut off, Pokemon Unite will allow users to continue to experience some content within the game. On November 12, 2026, a new Library feature will be added to the game. This feature will allow players to view records and certain in-game content.

This may seem like a good move, but it’s not without issue. Once Pokemon Unite shuts down in March, downloaded library content is locked to a specific device. This means that players will not be able to backup any of their content to a new device. Of course, that means a broken device will mean that data is lost forever.

Pokemon Unite may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the free-to-play MOBA has been a fun spin-off for fans of the series. Unfortunately, as with every live-service game, the MOBA is meeting its end, and an unceremonious one at that. Every online-only game suffers the same fate.

For now, Pokemon Unite is still available on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices. The game can also be played on PC via Android emulators. Pokemon Unite will be shut down in mere months, following the fate of every live-service game
