Bayonetta, Okami, Resident Evil 2, and Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya has pushed back against online gamers attempting to spoil Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil Requiem before the game is even released.

Resident Evil Requiem, a huge 30th anniversary production that features the glorious return of Leon S. Kennedy, is currently in the hands of reviewers and content creators.

Unfortunately, at the same time, the game’s entire story has also been leaked online with Capcom warning potential players to watch out for potential spoilers. Additionally, some retail copies have broken street date for the survival horror game.

“Please don’t post or share pre-release leaks and spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem,” Capcom said. “We really want everyone to enjoy the game’s story and experience as much as possible. Our legal department will continue to issue takedowns and deletion notices for leaks in order to preserve your day one experience.”

In a post on Twitter, Kamiya, who directed Resident Evil 2 in 1998, expressed his disdain for gamers who spoil games for others. The director explained that the twist ending of Resident Evil 2 was originally spoiled in a Japanese magazine, and doing so ruined the work the team put into the classic survival horror game.

“For your own selfish satisfaction, you’re trampling all over the feelings of users who were looking forward to it, and the feelings of the creators who poured their all into making it—a detestable act that destroys everyone’s happiness and deserves a thousand deaths,” the iconic game designer said.

Kamiya added that anyone who derives joy from spoiling games for players should “be cursed to never play games again”.

While Kamiya isn’t currently working on the Resident Evil series, the iconic Japanese game designer has started a new studio dubbed Clovers. At the time of writing, Kamiya is working on the long-awaited Okami 2, a sequel to his 2006 action-adventure game. There is currently no release date for the game.

As for Resident Evil, alongside the release of Requiem on February 27, 2026, Capcom is working on even more entries in the extremely popular survival horror series. While not confirmed, the studio is reportedly working on remakes of both Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
