Get ready to dive back into the mind of Goichi Suda, aka Suda51. Romeo is a Dead Man is the latest “ultra-violent science fiction” epic from Grasshopper Manufacture, and it promises all the punk-rock energy and surreal storytelling we’ve come to expect from the creators of No More Heroes. This time, the madness goes intergalactic. You’ll take on the role of Romeo Stargazer, an FBI Space-Time special agent who has been revived with “Deadgear” technology after a fatal encounter. If you’ve been looking for a game that combines flashy hack-and-slash combat with a plot that shatters the space-time continuum, your wait is almost over.

Romeo is a Dead Man follows Romeo Stargazer, a man who was saved from certain death by a time paradox created by his scientist grandfather. This paradox shattered the fabric of space-time, and now Romeo must work for the FBI's Space-Time Police to hunt down criminals who are exploiting the chaos.

The gameplay is a high-speed mix of third-person shooting and hack-and-slash combat. You’ll swap between swords and guns on the fly to build up "blood" from your enemies. Once your gauge is full, you can unleash Bloody Summer, a devastating special attack that clears the screen in a shower of stylized gore. Between missions, the game features retro-style minigames and side activities that provide a breather from the intense interdimensional battles.

Pricing and Editions

Grasshopper Manufacture is offering the game at a mid-range price point, making it a competitive pick in a busy February release window.

  • Standard Edition ($49.99): This includes the base game. It is currently available for wishlisting on all major digital storefronts.
  • Launch Sale: Suda51 has teased on social media that a special launch discount may be available during the first week of release, so keep an eye out for a potential 10% or 15% price drop on day one.

Unlike many modern titles, there has been no announcement of a "Pre-order" or "Deluxe" edition with gameplay-affecting items. In true punk fashion, everyone starts on the same level of madness.
