Saber Interactive’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the best-selling 40K game of all time, causing rapid spikes in the sale of physical miniatures and even positively effecting the sales of other Warhammer titles.

Shortly after the release of the second game, Saber Interactive announced Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 in the form of a barely-animated trailer. In early development, the announcement teases a “bigger and better” take on the massively successful formula of its predecessor.

At the time of writing, the exciting Warhammer 40K action game has no release date and no real details have been confirmed. Will the game focus on the Necron tease from the end of the second game? Will it continue the fight against the Tyranids? We don’t know.

“They’ve given us some ideas that are amazing. They have given us some really cool ideas.”

Saber Interactive development chief Tim Willits

In an interview with IGN, Saber Interactive development chief Tim Willits kept his cards close to his chest when asked about Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3. While the game will continue the story of Titus, not much else is known, although Willits teased that the team is working together with Games Workshop on “amazing” ideas to continue the series’ story.

“We’re working with Games Workshop, they’re the best ever,” the Saber boss confirmed. “And there’s such a rich universe that we’re pulling stuff [from]. And they’ve given us some ideas that are amazing. They have given us some really cool ideas. Their brains are just like… wow. So lots of super great ideas from Games Workshop.”

Willits was also asked why Saber Interactive announced the third game so quickly after the second. In the year since the second game, the studio has announced numerous games including the Warhammer 40,000 sequel, but Space Marine 3 is certainly the most exciting.

“It’s just how we work with Focus [our publisher],” he continued. “Again, it was massively successful for us, Space Marine 2, and Focus.”

With the first game focusing on Orks and Chaos and the second game focusing on Tyranids and Chaos, a Necron threat would be a fantastic follow-up for the upcoming third game. As one of the coolest enemy factions in the 40K universe, it would be cool to see them brought to life with the sheer attention to detail shown by Saber’s past games, but nothing is confirmed.
