Since Bethesda isn’t working on a remaster of Obsidian Entertainment’s beloved Fallout New Vegas, one talented modder has taken it upon themselves to spruce up the ageing first-person RPG with a new coat of paint.
Duibbed the FNV Texture Upscale Project, modder WesrArd has compiled a “comprehensive texture pack” that upscales every texture in the RPG to a new high-quality 4K version that aims to make the game sharper and cleaner for modern displays.
Available to download here on Nexus Mods, the mod uses a high-quality node-based upscaling program called chaiNNer to bring a four-times upscale to all in-game textures. Unlike some programs, chaiNNer doesn’t smear or imagine details that aren’t in the original, allowing the free remaster to stay true to the original’s art style.

Modder WestArd explains that the Fallout New Vegas mod makes use of a PBR-focused upscaling model that works well with the original 1K textures of Obsidian’s RPG. This means that the upscaler is able to find areas in an original texture that shows 3D depth and make everything more defined in the correct way.
Due to the creation of 4K textures, the new mod is quite large. Covering the game and its DLCs, the remaster project comes in at a massive 17.7GB which is larger than the Fallout game’s Ultimate Edition on PC.
This is far from the only remaster mod available for Fallout New Vegas. In fact, there’s a whole host of graphics mods for the game that don’t screw with the game’s original aesthetic. One great mod is the Real Time Reflections addon which, well, adds proper reflections to the game, transforming areas like the titular New Vegas into even more gorgeous locales. That same modder also created Better Transitions which adds… it adds better transitions, okay? Doors move and all that.
While Bethesda is reportedly working on a Fallout 3 Remaster following the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, there’s still no word on an official return to New Vegas… outside of the upcoming Fallout TV show season. Fans have been clamouring for a return to Obsidian’s adventure for ages, but it doesn’t seem like we’re getting anything anytime soon.
