Gameplay Features

Unlike most modern horror games that strip you of power, The Occultist equips you with a mystical tool that serves as both your compass and your shield. Alanโ€™s primary tool is his Pendulum. By focusing your energy, you can cause it to react to Ethereal Echoes. These echoes allow you to see glimpses of the past, often revealing how a person died or providing the solution to a cryptic environmental puzzle.

You cannot fight the entities of Godstone Island with traditional weapons. Instead, you must use the Pendulum to manipulate the environment. For example, snuffing out candles to hide in darkness or activating ancient wards to trap spirits temporarily. Itโ€™s a high-stakes game of supernatural cat-and-mouse.

The Occultist Demo

If you aren't sure your nerves can handle the full investigation, Daloar has released a free playable demo available now on Steam. The demo covers the first 30-60 minutes of the game, including the arrival at Godstone Island and a glimpse into the mechanics with the first four Pendulum powers.

Editions and Pricing

The Occultist features a more modest release than what some gamers are used to. For example, there are no flashy cosmetics or pre-order bonuses. Notably, however, the Digital Deluxe Edition is currently available only on consoles (like the PS Store), but we expect that PC players will see a similar option as launch draws near.
