The Where Winds Meet team have revealed they are “currently focusing on performance optimisations” for a specific Steam Deck version of their hit free-to-play game.
In an interview with FRVR, Everstone Studios said they “know many players are excited” about the WWM coming to Valve’s handheld, but they don’t want to give a specific launch date yet as their full focus in making sure it plays as well as possible.
Right now, the game has been described as “almost playable” by testers on Steam Deck HQ. However, Everstone is hoping to improve performance on Valve’s handheld to make the game more playable by getting the game verified status and options specifically for the device. While the game can be booted via desktop mode, it’s not officially supported.
“We know many players are excited about Steam Deck, and our team is currently focused on performance optimization,” they told us. “We stick to one simple rule: experience comes first. Before anything goes live, we want to make sure that graphics, frame rates, and overall stability feel really solid. Therefore, we have not yet set a specific launch date. That said, we do expect to share more Steam Deck updates in the near future.”
Where Winds Meet enjoyed a fantastic launch on mobile last year, with many impressed with just how well it runs and plays. A key part of this, Everstone explain, is down to their decision to use “modular technology architecture”, which allows the team to optimize different devices side by side instead of treating mobiles “as an add-on”.

“For mobile, we use dynamic graphics tiering system and adaptive controls, so the game can run smoothly at around 30-60 fps on a wide range of devices, while still keeping the visual quality youโd expect from PC or console,” they told us. “Our design principle is simple: unified core experience with differentiated interaction methods. For example, on console, we design button combos that feel intuitive on a controller.
“On mobile, we customize gesture controls and use a dynamic UI layout system built for touchscreens. This approach ensures consistent gameplay across platforms, so no matter where you play, the experience stays smooth and familiar.”
Where Winds Meet is set to release its next major update, the 1.3 update, on February 6, 2026. Spring Bliss (which can beย pre-downloaded now) brings with it new world bosses, mystic skills and events throughout the month.
