GSC Game World has officially announced Cost of Hope, the first of two expansion DLCs for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
After teasing that the new DLC will answer both “old and new mysteries” of the Zone, GSC has confirmed new details about the long-awaited first expansion for the open-world shooter.
Set after the events of the main game, the new story will continue Skif’s journey into the Zone, taking players back the iconic Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant that was inaccessible in the main game.
Launching at some point in Summer 2026, Cost of Hope is described as the “middle chapter” of the ongoing Heart of Chornobyl storyline that will be concluded with the game’s second expansion in the future.
Cost of Hope features two new regions to explore within the already-dense open world of Stalker 2. Alongside the aforementioned devastated Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which has been “locked away for decades”, players will also explore the Iron Forest which features “maze-like paths” that we will undoubtedly get lost in.
With each new region having its own quests, hub, and characters, the new Stalker 2 DLC also introduces new weapons and armour to discover as well as new anomalies and enemies to face.
As for the game’s story, GSC teases that both Duty and Freedom will be up to their old tricks with both sides having their own interpretation of how to handle the Zone. While the two factions were in a tenuous treaty during the events of the main story, this DLC appears to be introducing an end to that peace.
Alongside the DLC, continued updates for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl are still in the works. In a previous interview with FRVR, GSC explained they could update the game “forever” as there’s always something new to explore within the game.
