Yes, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is a major disappointment, but it’s not a terrible game. While The Chinese Room’s latest RPG is light on the actual RPG, the team behind the project did at least manage to create some pretty damn satisfying combat for the main character of Phyre, although it did come at the expense of any real usable stealth features.

While the game’s core combat is incredibly satisfying—especially if you’re playing as the melee-focused Bruja class—there are still improvements that can be made. As it turns out, the few modders targeting the new Bloodlines game are attempting to do just that with new mechanics that make fighting even better.

Created by modder Ems, the new Adding New Attack Types mod does literally what it says in the title. With the mod installed, Phyre has access to new offensive gameplay options that allow the game’s combat to flow even better as you whack countless ghouls in the face before smashing their brains against the concrete.

The mod—available to download right here—adds two new attacks that massively increase your ability to chain combos onto crowds of enemies. The best addition is the Instant Kick, which is tied to the Q key, and allows you to interrupt enemies mid-attack and generally make you feel cool as hell with some insane range.

Additionally, the modder has added a “sliding boot nuke” which is tied to the X key. This addition allows you to quickly slide towards enemies to dish out massive damage. Technically, there is a kick slide as part of the main combat loop anyway, but it requires running, crouching to slide and then attacking.

You can see just how much better the game’s already exhilarating combat flows in this video below with the new kicks and slides simply allowing for greater control over your vampiric moveset.

The new mod is simply a script that “exploits engine timing” to allow you to pull off the game’s moves whenever you want, instead of when the game decides you can kick and slide. While it doesn’t fix the game’s lack of, well, any RPG mechanics, it does it so that you have at least a little bit more choice while you play.
