Everstone Studio’s new free-to-play open-world RPG Where Winds Meet has smashed its developer’s expectations with over 9 million players during its global launch. While the game on release already boasts a huge world to explore, future updates aim to expand the game’s map with new regions.

Speaking to FRVR after launch, lead producer Beralt Lyu explained that the team is “fully comitted to the long-term future of Where Winds Meet” with plans in place to continue supporting the game’s story for years to come.

As the team also shuts down any possibility of future “aggressive monetisation” or “pay-to-win” schemes, Everstone has plans to frequently bring new regions to the game that are more than just new places to visit.

“We will evolve through a seasonal update model (each season lasting approximately three months),” Lyu said. “The focus of these updates will vary: some will introduce new regions and characters to advance the main storyline, while others will roll out fresh gameplay modes, limited time events, and enhancements to social features and character progression systems.”

“We’re not just launching a game; we’re planting a seed, and we plan to nurture it with our players for a very, very long time.”

Lyu explained that the most important part of keeping Where Winds Meet evolving is to be “continuously refining the game based on community feedback” with player discussion heavily swaying future updates.

While the producer didn’t confirm what regions players will be visiting next, Lyu explaiend that each region will not just be “geographically distinct, but also rich with narrative significance. The themes will often revolve around discovery, conflict, and the enduring wuxia spirit in a changing world”.

“The world and its story are designed to evolve for years to come,” he continued. “While we can’t share a detailed, multi-year calendar just yet, our seasonal update model is built specifically for sustained growth. We have a clear, ambitious roadmap of content planned, including new regions to explore, chapters of the main story to unfold, and fresh gameplay experiences to discover.”

Lyu told us that the Where Winds Meet team are committed to “support and grow this world alongside our community for the long haul”. While some free-to-play games only manage a short lifespan, the team at Everstone say that Where Winds Meet is a “seed, and we plan to nurture it with our players for a very, very long time”.

Right now, Where Winds Meet is available on PC and PlayStation 5 with the game’s Android and iOS port coming later this month on December 12, 2025.
