007 First Light is set to launch later this month on Xbox, PlayStation and PC. However, the game’s Nintendo Switch 2 port has been delayed until sometime later this year.

While the Switch 2 was originally set to launch alongside its other incarnations, IO delayed the game for additional polish. While the studio has not announced a new release date for the Switch 2 version, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak believes it should launch by the end of Summer.

Speaking to The Game Business, Abrak explained that the game is “running on the Switch 2” right now. However, it’s currently not up to the studio’s standard of quality on the platform. Abrak didn’t explain what is currently wrong with this version of the game, but explains that the studio doesn’t want the version to be seen as lesser than other platforms.

“We just want to make sure it’s good as it can be,” the CEO explained. “I don’t want to hear it wasn’t a good version. To be completely honest, we need a bit more time to get it where we want it to be. We said summer. It’s probably going be late summer.”

While the Nintendo Switch 2 has seen some incredible ports, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, some ports have disappeared. Gearbox’s Borderlands 4 was announced as an early title for the platform, but has been missing for months with no new release date.

In 007 First Light’s case, Abrak promises that “we’re going to get it out” on the Nintendo Switch 2. IO has already supported the Switch 2 with a port of Hitman: World of Assassination, but the James Bond game is considerably more advanced than that title. Nevertheless, Abrak is adamant that the game is launching on the handheld.

“Bond has a special place on Nintendo,” the CEO told the outlet. “And I promise I will do everything I can, and I can do quite a lot being the CEO, to get that in a great shape.”

While Abrak has previously explained that IO will return for a Hitman 4 eventually, the studio is also looking to release more James Bond games in the future. If 007 First Light is successful, the team hopes to create additional games in the series. Additionally, the current game is expected to have a long tail with additional DLC missions.

“We are so blessed that we are in a place where we can pick and choose what we want to do,” the CEO said. “So, if this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community, why not?”
