Arc Raiders has launched to millions of players, and it didn’t take long for the horde to find some particularly nasty exploits to get ahead in the game. After release, it only took a few days to find a way to wallhack into locked rooms, an exploit developer Embark Studios “fixed” by simply burning players alive if the door wasn’t unlocked with a key.
On launch, every game is flooded with more players than its ever had. A game as popular as, say, a Bethesda RPG is met with more players trying more things than a development team could ever have the resources to try, and Arc Raiders is no different.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Arc Raiders art director Robert Sammelin explained that the team were shocked by the amount of exploits players managed to find just a few hours after launch.
“There are quite a few things that have taken us by surprise,” the developer explained. “Other things are sort of more or less known, because we have to continuously find ways to waterproof the experience and figure out how to mitigate anything that is either generally damaging exploits or just general bugs.”
“Seeing as the game has been in development for a long time, we’ve tested and tried out a lot of things throughout the years,” they continued. “But whenever you launch a game and see the players utilising especially the physicality of a game like this, it is genuinely surprising, but it’s mostly delightful things. We’ve seen players do things that we’ve tested out, but to a whole different level, and it’s also really useful for us to find ways to tweak and patch and fix.”
At the time of writing, Arc Raiders is currently preparing for its upcoming Cold Snap update, the last major content drop of the year. Launching soon, the upcoming content drop will also see the end of weekly patches for the game as Embark focuses on more important updates instead of getting something out every week.
