Embark Studios has just dropped its Arc Raiders Flashpoint update with a host of new content for you to enjoy. As explained in the dense Arc Raiders 1.22.0 patch notes, the new update comes with a host of changes, including the game’s best change yet.
Since launch, one of the biggest annoyances with Arc Raiders was the randomness of how much time you were allotted once you joined a server. If you were running a free kit or an expensive custom kit, there was always a chance of joining a new server with just ten minutes left in the match.
This made it quite annoying if you were planning to take down a big ARC—which may have already been killed—or jumping in to finish a particularly long questline. As of now, this issue should be much less prominent as players using entirely custom kits will now get priority on fresh servers as of the new Flashpoint update.
“As part of an ongoing look at free loadout usage and how it impacts the game, we’re going to bias the matchmaking to put players with custom loadouts into fresh servers,” Embark confirmed in a recent blog post.
While this is a great change to the game, you’re still not guaranteed to join into a fresh server every time you load in. Unlike Marathon, which starts everyone with a full timer except for Rook players, there will still be some variance in your allotted time when you load into a match, but the bias towards custom kits should make the game more enjoyable.
Embark explains that “map choice, time of day, and region will still affect the number of players available to matchmake”, but the new changes should make free kits a little bit less prominent in matches at the game start.
“Free Loadouts are primarily meant as a safety net for a player’s personal economy,” the developer explained to players. “With these kits, those who play carefully should have enough to build themselves back up, accomplish a few tasks, or make a bit of progress.”
While there are still some other quibbles with some Arc Raiders systems, this new update fixes the biggest annoyance many players have had with Embark’s extraction shooter. Honestly, there’s nothing worse than bringing your best kit into a match with sod all time to do anything.
