The developers of Baldur’s Gate 3’s biggest mod project, Path to Menzoberranzan, is giving fans the chance to design a custom NPC within the ambitious custom campaign.

Path to Menzoberranzan, is currently prepping for the release of its long-awaited alpha build, which is said to be around as big as the original game’s Nautiloid intro when it releases. Set in Athkatla, the City of Coin from Baldur’s Gate 2, the in-development mod boasts custom quests, a full story, and its own fully-voiced companions.

As the team wraps up development on the game’s tutorial, fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 are being given the chance to play the role of a custom NPC within the game world. In an announcement to fans, the Path to Menzoberranzan team explained that three lucky players will be able to create their own characters to live in the virtual game world.

“With our level design mapped out for our tutorial, we’re moving on to environment design,” community manager Andrew Simone said in the project’s Discord server. “What does this mean, you ask? Simply put, we’re taking the basic sketch of our level and adding the fine details to deliver an immersive atmosphere. We’re creating custom assets, placing objects, refining our scenes, and more. Moving on,” they continued. “In the spirit of Waukeentide’s gift giving traditions, we will be giving war out remaining 3 custom NPC spots!”

If you win, you’ll be able to help design an NPC and name them with winners able to determine exactly how the character will look. However, it’s worth noting that this doesn’t mean winners will be able to voice the NPC, just design them.

To enter the giveaway, you’ll first have to join the official Path to Menzoberranzan server and agree to its terms. Afterwards, simply navigate to the server’s giveaway section and enter the giveaway. The Path to Menzoberranzan team explains that fans must only use one Discord account to enter the giveaway, and anyone using multiple accounts to try and skewer the odds will be disqualified. Additionally, developers on the project may not enter.

As the biggest Baldur’s Gate 3 fan project so far, Path to Menzoberranzan is an incredibly exciting project. While many have expressed concern at the project’s large scope, the team has been steadily working towards the mod’s alpha release, and it seems that the project is almost ready for fans to enjoy very soon.

Of course, it’s worth noting that PtM is not the only large-scale mod project around. Alongside the return to Athkatla, another large mod team is working on Mad Mage’s Domain, a full custom campaign recreation of Dungeon of the Mad Mage within the Baldur’s Gate 3 engine. While an official Baldur’s Gate 4 is seemingly up in the air, despite Hasbro’s claim that it will definitely happen, its the modding community that will be giving us the most Baldur’s Gate content for a long while.
