EA’s Battlefield series is largely tied to the PC with the series usually pushing the capabilities of high-end rigs to their limits. While Battlefield 6’s massive sales were largely on PC, it seems that the game’s retention may be slightly better than expected on console.

The release of Battlefield 6 Season 2 should’ve massively improved player counts as the first major content drop since launch. Unfortunately, on PC, that doesn’t appear to be the case with player numbers largely stagnant since the update’s release.

Via Steam Charts, Battlefield 6 player numbers on Season 2’s release jumped to a peak of 91,335 concurrent players, a number that was actually surpassed on February 22nd with a concurrent peak of 95,926 players. Nevertheless, the player count for the game has been largely the same.

On the other hand, the game’s Xbox performance has seen a significant climb since the release of Season 2. Via TrueAchievements, Xbox’s player count for the FPS multiplayer game jumped by 23%, even managing to beat out Overwatch, a game that has seen a 99.9% increase in Xbox players due to its recent rebrand.

Battlefield 6 has jumped to become the 8th Most Played Xbox game at the time of writing across both Series S and Series X. For comparison, Overwatch has now dropped down to 11th place in the Most Played list.

On PlayStation, via PSN tracker, Battlefield 6 jumped up 6 spots on the Most Played PS5 games chart since the release of Season 2. While not as impressive as the game’s Xbox performance, the game rose to the 17th Most Played game on the platform, beating out the massively successful Helldivers 2, Genshin Impact, and Valorant.

While the numbers are still far lower than expected after the game’s record-breaking launch, Battlefield 6 is still doing decently well. At the very least, the game is still proving to be more popular than Battlefield 2042 was during that game’s lifecycle, although that game did have a much lower number of developers working on it.

It’s worth noting that Season 2 is not over yet with more maps coming as well as some eventual vehicle rebalancing in the works. On March 17, the game will see another new map as part of its “Nightfall” event in the form of Hagental Base. Additional weapons and vehicles are also on the way.
