Just after celebrating the 10th anniversary of its endlessly successful asymmetric horror multiplayer game, Dead by Daylight studio Behaviour Interactive has started a fresh round of layoffs.
The games industry has been wrought with layoffs recently with new cuts announced every week. Just last month, Fortnite developer Epic Games laid off 1,000 workers with developers stating no one can “fully understand” the impact the layoffs will have “on the game for the rest of the year and likely beyond”.
While not on the same scale as Epic’s layoffs, Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive has reportedly laid off around 30 employees at the time of writing. While there have been anonymous claims that the studio will be increasing its use of AI to replace lost developers, the studio has not given any official statement at the time of publication.
Nevertheless, multiple employees have confirmed that they have been affected by the layoffs at the DBD developer. Senior animator Jonathan Veiga confirmed that they were included in the cull of workers at the studio.
“Unfortunately, I was affected by the layoffs from Behaviour,” the developer wrote on Twitter. “Honestly didn’t think it was going to happen to me. If anyone is looking for an animator, you can let me know via DMs.”
Veiga’s work on Dead by Daylight has touched most of the game’s biggest releases for both promotional cinematics and in-game animations. The developer worked on the game’s animations for Springtrap, Naughty Bear, Dracula, Chucky, Singularity, and substantially more inclusions in the multiplayer blockbuster.
Jackson Lanaus, a level designer on the multiplayer game, confirmed that they have also been cut after “3.5 years at Behaviour Interactive as a level designer on multiple projects”. Right now, others who have been affected have not spoken up.
This is not the first time that Behaviour Interactive has gone through layoffs. In fact, around this time in 2024, the studio laid off 95 developers to pursue a “clarified vision”, citing “structural changes” as the reason behind the layoffs. Behaviour has yet to comment on the current layoffs.
Despite the layoffs, Behaviour is pushing for one of its biggest Dead by Daylight years ever as the studio teases more chapter remakes and a slew of crossover additions to the game.
