EA CEO Andrew Wilson was rewarded with a colossal $38.7 million bonus for the monumental launch success of Battlefield 6. The game’s success, while massive, still resulted in mass layoffs affecting hundreds of developers that helped ship the multiplayer game.
Revealed in EA’s latest financial report, via Eurogamer, Wilson’s bonus skyrocketed from $8 million the previous year to $38.7 million following Battlefield 6’s launch. Wilson is not alone in the bonus handouts, either, with $13.7 million for EA president Laura Miele, $11.3 million for CFO Stuart Canfield, $8.4 million for CLO Jacob Schatz, and $8.3 million for CPO Mala Singh.
The feast of bonuses equaling over $80 million has been attributed to Battlefield 6 having “achieved meeting all milestones for a high-quality launch” as well as EA Sports FC achieving “specified retention goal[s]” as well as “audience growth targets” for the game’s mobile version.
Despite the seemingly glowing praise for the release of Battlefield 6, which again resulted in tens of millions of dollars in bonuses for executives, that release also saw mass layoffs across the expanse of Battlefield Studios.
Despite the game launching as the best-selling game of 2025 in the United States, employees from Dice, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios were let go as part of a “realignment” following the game’s release. At the time, EA claimed that, despite the layoffs, the future of Battlefield remained “one of our biggest priorities, and we’re continuing to invest in the franchise”.
Battlefield Studios’ layoffs have not been the only layoffs across EA, either. In 2025, EA shut down Cliffhanger Games, which was working on Marvel’s Black Panther. Additionally, the gaming giant cut over 100 employees at Respawn Entertainment. These layoffs came after the company’s massive cuts in 2024 which saw 650 employees cut.
Despite this, the bonuses continue to flow towards the executives behind said layoffs. Since launch, Battlefield 6 has seemingly struggled to keep up with the demands of live-service development with slower-than-expected fixes, changes, and new content, likely due to the massive cuts that Battlefield Studios has seen since pre-release.
Battlefield 6 has just released Season 4 which has added the Pacific Front with new naval mechanics, maps, and new weaponry. The game is available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC at the time of writing.
