Epic Games’ massively popular battle royale game Fortnite is definitely not a dead game. While the ever-popular multiplayer game has felt stale as of late, the arrival of The Simpsons crossover has brought in more players than ever before.

Releasing last week, The Simpsons crossover not only added numerous characters from the series into the game, but also transformed the battle royale island into a hodgepodge of Springfield with numerous iconic locales recreated within the game.

Despite recent crossovers including Godzilla, Star Wars and Power Rangers, the Fortnite Simpsons crossover has proven to be horrendously popular for the game. On launch, the crossover event not only brought down the game’s servers, but all of the Epic Games Store services as players rushed to jump into the new map.

In a statement on social media, Epic Games explained that Fortnite’s new crossover has resulted in the biggest returning player draw in a year with significantly more players jumping back in to play. “In 48 hours, we welcomed the biggest number of new and returning Fortnite players since last holiday season,” the developers explained on Twitter.

While Epic did not release official player numbers for the game, data shows that the Fortnite Simpsons crossover brought in a peak of 2.7 million concurrent players over the weekend. That means 2.7 million people were playing at the exact same minute.

Of course, this isn’t Fortnite’s all-time high concurrent player count. In fact, the game’s all-time high is considerably bigger at a massive 15 million players which occurred during the Galactus event in December 2020. The second most popular period for the battle royale game was in November 2024 for the Remix: The Finale event featuring Juice Wrld. That event saw over 14 million players jump in to watch the virtual concert.

Nevertheless, The Simpsons crossover shows that Fortnite still knows how to draw in a huge crowd, and The Simpsons still has a massive audience waiting for something good to consume. With a second movie on the way, maybe The Simpsons has its spark back?
