A new Marvel superheroes gacha game is reportedly in development. A partnership between Marvel and Scopely, the upcoming co-op gacha game is said to be targeting the likes of Genshin Impact in terms of scope.
Known internally as Project Comet, the upcoming gacha game is said to take the gacha mechanics and scale of Genshin Impact, but within an action-RPG container. The upcoming game is reportedly inspired by Marvel Ultimate Alliance with four-player co-op missions and multiple difficulty options to earn better rewards.
This comes from a report by Insider Gaming and a series of leaks by MultiverSusie on Twitter. The latter, who previously leaked in-development assets of Warner Bros’ now-dead multiplayer fighting game Multiversus, has shared a number of designs for characters that will star in the game.
The in-development assets look strikingly similar to the designs of NetEase’s multiplayer hero shooter Marvel Rivals, which is moving to become a “moving Marvel anime experience”. The leaker claimed that the game has a number of “shared artists” which are working between the new games, hence the similarity in aesthetic.
Leaked heroes and villains that will star in the game include the iconic Spider-Man, Wolverine and Captain America alongside Elektra, Juggernaut, and Silver Samurai. Players will also be able to play as the Fantastic Four, including Invisible Woman.
The leaker even shared an in-development gameplay snippet of the upcoming ARPG in what appears to be an Unreal Engine 5 test stage. In the video, Juggernaut triggers what could be his ultimate attack, charging through the battlefield before stomping the ground.
Right now, it’s clear that the game is being made with mobile in mind, which isn’t too surprising considering the crowd for all gacha games. According to Insider Gaming, the game is currently in the works by the team behind Marvel Strike Force, and a very small closed playtest for the game occurred earlier this month.
Following the rampant success of the PlayStation Marvel’s Spider-Man and NetEase’s Marvel Rivals, Marvel is continuing to expand its video game empire. Alongside the upcoming gacha game, Insomniac is working on its upcoming Wolverine game and Arkane Lyon is working on a Blade-focused immersive sim.
