NetEase is increasing its ban aggression for Marvel Rivals players that are using hardware to gain an advantage over other players.

Following the release of Season 7 patch notes, NetEase has confirmed that it will now start to ban players on PC that are using “mouse macros” to pull off inhuman combos against other players. As a cross-platform title, the devs believe this offers an unfair advantage over other players.

“Some players are using mouse macros during matches,” the developer announced. “Executing abnormal combo sequences or achieving actions beyond normal human hand speed gives these users an unfair extra advantage.”

The developer explained that these macros are “a strict violation of our rules”, explaining the tech “severely undermines game fairness, negatively affects the competitive experience of honest players, and has a detrimental impact on the overall gaming environment”. In the past, Rivals also started to ban AFK players who were stalling in matches to farm XP as well.

From this point on, players who are “using macros to pull off impossible combos or to achieve superhuman APM” will be punished. The punishment will start at a matchmaking suspension but will eventually result in a permanent account ban if players continue to exploit the game.

“Let’s be perfectly clear: letting a machine do the work for you is absolutely not ‘skill’”, the developer said. “Macros are just an unfair advantage gained through villainous means.” As a result, the developer has “strengthened our detection and identification capabilities regarding mouse macro behaviour” to automatically find and ban players.

“We urge all players to cherish your accounts and not to take chances,” the developer continued. “Any attempt to gain an unfair advantage through mouse macros will be met with serious consequences.”

Right now, Marvel Rivals is planning for its biggest year ever with even more frequent and larger-scale updates than past years. Additionally, some are even planned to tie in with this year’s Avenger’s Doomsday, although its not known how this will actually happen.

With even more characters coming to the already-stacked superhero hero shooter, executive producer Danny Koo envisions a future where the game has hundreds of heroes on offer. “Certainly, we’ll work together on how we present that to the players,” Koo said. “But I run the live-service side of Marvel games. We have games [that have] over 200-300 characters, and it’s not going to slow down.”
