NetEase’s next major update for Marvel Rivals is almost upon us. After the release of Season 5, which added Gambit to the game, Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 is speeding around the corner to give players one Hell of a mid-season update.
Continuing the Love is a Battlefield theme of the past season, the upcoming content drop will launch with the new hero Rogue, more skins, and the annual Winter-themed additions that will make the game feel nice and cold just in time for the Christmas break.
Just remember that before Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 releases, you’re able to unlock free units in the multiplayer game as part of its annual anniversary celebration. However, there are also some cool rewards currently locked behind annoying gacha mechanics.
Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 release date – when does it come out?
NetEase has already confirmed the Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 release date for Friday, December 12, 2025. At the time of writing, there is no pre-load process for the upcoming season, so you’ll have to download the game on your platform of choice as soon as it goes live.
As with most Marvel Rivals updates, the release of a new season usually comes with some some server downtime as well (as annoying as that is). With this in mind, the update will likely have around two hours of downtime as with prior seasons.
Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 will likely go live at 9:00 am Friday, Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), following in the footsteps of the last few seasons. However, at the time of writing, this has not been specifically confirmed by NetEase.
Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 New Hero – Rogue
Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 will add a single new hero the already massive roster of playable characters in the multiplayer game. The powerful X-Men character Rogue will join her paramour Gambit as a powerful new character to control.
At the time of writing, Rogue’s abilities have not been confirmed. However, the character has been leaked as a strategist class character that will be able to copy the abilities of nearby heroes to use for herself. While this could change, the character’s abilities were heavily datamined from the game’s last major update which means they should be largely accurate.
Marvel Rivals Winter Event 2025
Alongside the new hero, Marvel Rivals leakers have revealed that there will be a Winter 2025 limited-time event within the game. Dataminers have found evidence of an upcoming Winter Event hidden in the files, although it is likely that last year’s event could simply be returning.
Via leaker X0X_Leak, who is largely accurate when it comes to Marvel Rivals leaks, “more strings have been added related to an upcoming Winter Event”. Additionally, it seems that last year’s Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival is returning.
“Expect new winter skins and a new (or a rerun of Jeff’s LTM mode later this year,” the leakers told fans on social media at the end of last month.
New Marvel Rivals Skins
As with every new update, Marvel Rivals Season 5.5 will be adding new skins to the game for players to unlock as well as buy with units. At the time of writing, only a couple of skins have been leaked in text form, but additional skins will likely be released to tie in with the game’s Winter Event.
Trusted leaker X0X_Leak has confirmed that additional Psylocke and Luna Snow skins have been discovered within the game’s files with the latter being perfect for the Christmas period.
