Between episodes of FX’s brilliant new Alien Earth series, I’ve been jumping through myriad Aliens games – including classic AvP and the awesome, underrated Aliens: Dark Descent – and I’m always craving a new game in the horror sci-fi series.
In a wonderful surprise, one of my favourite modern retro-style FPS games, Selaco, has just received a mod that brings the world of Alien and its terrifying Xenomorphs to the game, and they look amazing.
Released on the Steam Workshop, Selaco modder Yij has created two brilliant mods that brings Aliens’ Xenomorph Warriors and the iconic Pulse Rifle weapon into the game, complete with perfect movie sound effects.
The first mod in the collection is the M41A Pulse Rifle which replaces the game’s primary UC-36 with the iconic sci-fi weapon. Complete with a magazine-slap reload animation, the gun looks incredible with fantastic sprite work and those gorgeous sound effects we all know and love.
However, the more impressive mod is the newly-released Xenomorph Warrior Mod which “changes the plant zombies to that of the terrifying Alien Warrior Xenomorph we all know, fear and love”.
In the works for two and a half months, the Xenos scream, hiss and charge at the player just like in the original Atari Jaguar AvP game. Sadly, there’s no way for the creatures to crawl on walls and ceilings, but they look incredible in action.
Selaco is one of the most underrated retro-style FPS games around. A gorgeous mixture of DOOM and F.E.A.R, it’s a downright brilliant shooter that’s still in early access but always getting even better.
As a fan of that game and Alien/Aliens, this mod is a perfect little addition. Hopefully, sometime in the future, we can get even more crossover mods.
