As players prepare for Arc Raider’s next major content drop, many have wondered whether completing an Expedition is actually worth it in Embark’s new extraction shooter.
In the game, an Expedition is essentially an optional wipe. Players donate thousands of coins and resources to get rid of all of their progress, but gain bonuses including faster XP gain, additional stash size, bonus skill points and an enhanced Scrappy.
The current departure window for the Arc Raiders Expedition is set for December 15, and will be replaced with a new Expedition when the game’s Cold Snap update launches later this month. While Expeditions have been purposefully vague, Embark have confirmed that these bonuses will carry over as permanent upgrades which should stack per Expedition.
In the Arc Raiders Discord server, Embark community manager Lily confirmed that the Expedition “skill point and stash space bonuses are permanent” additions to your account. Additionally, they confirmed that the size of your bonus is dependent on a combination of your total stash value and how many coins you have when your character departs. Embark did not confirm what value will reap the highest reward for players.
Unfortunately, the community manager did not mention exactly how large these upgrades will be. Many players have guessed that the game’s stash upgrade will be the same 24-slot upgrade as a normal paid upgrade, which would be satisfying.
Embark is also still being vague about other rewards that are tied to the expedition mechanic. For example, the exact upgrade for Scrappy has still not been confirmed, and there’s no word on if there is a limit for how many expedition bonuses can stack or if that stack continues forever.
There’s a lot of information that is still not on the table, and that’s seemingly by design. The idea of an optional progress wipe is incredibly daunting, despite the potential rewards. Nevertheless, all will be revealed in the coming weeks. For example, it remains to be seen if the current weapons meta holds up.
