Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a huge success for the studio as a classic-style CRPG that doesn’t cut corners. To this day, the game still has countless players and even modders adding huge new features such as player housing.
The success of Baldur’s Gate 3 has caused other publishers to take note. While the game likely won’t change AAA development, actor Samantha Béart explains the game’s success is proving that gamers want games with “a strong narrative”, despite what those behind games publishing may believe.
Speaking to GameReactor at Gamescom 2025, Béart explained that she’s attracted to projects that have great stories. While games have always told some fantastic stories, the sheer volume of success surrounding games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 proves that great tales and greater characters can carry a game.
“A lot of the decision-makers aren’t the people playing Baldur’s Gate 3.”

“I think I’m very lucky to be stepping into this right now, as Baldur’s Gate 3 has sort of shown that players really do want, or some players really do want a strong narrative,” the actor told the outlet. “And they also, like, want to play games with their favourite actors in it. So, I’m in a very good position right now.”
Despite this, there is still pushback from some companies regarding strong characters and narratives as those who fund the creation of your favourite games aren’t always gamers.
“A lot of the decision-makers aren’t the people playing Baldur’s Gate 3,” Béart continued. “Every new project is a new connection, and you have to sort of start from the start every time.”
As for the future of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is no longer involved. IP holder Wizards of the Coast and parent company Hasbro are planning a Baldur’s Gate 4, but Larian will not be developing it.
Instead, the studio is working on two new games with the earliest title not launching until 2028 at the absolute earliest. Is Béart going to be a part of the new game? We don’t know, but we hope they at least have a role somewhere in the team’s next RPG.
