Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game filled to the brim with moral choices, but the game’s Dark Urge Origin adds some particularly nasty options into the mix, and actor Jennifer English is finding this out the hard way.
English – who plays the role of Shadowheart, God’s favorite princess, and the most interesting girl in the world – is currently playing through the game as a Dark Urge character. As a fan of “doing morally questionable things in video games”, the actor is surprisingly struggling with some of the heinous choices Baldur’s Gate 3 hides.
Speaking to YouTuber Todd Kenreck, English explained that she loves to perform some of the more questionable choices in scripts. As an actor, her character engaging in a heinous act needs to feel 100% real as that character.
“As an actor, it’s vital that we don’t judge that, and we fully buy into their choices,” the actress said. Unfortunately, that choice becomes a lot harder when you’re the one pressing the button with the Shadowheart actress finding it a lot different on the side of the player.
“I’m playing a Dark Urge run right now, and I’m trying so hard to be evil. And, whilst I like murdering, I really love murdering, but I don’t like the choices,” the actor explained.
The Dark Urge run in Baldur’s Gate 3 often feels like a punishment if you’ve played the game as a good character before. While you can be a good Dark Urge character, you’re constantly wrestling with, well, dark urges, and you’re constantly fed evil little carrots with horrendous outcomes. Resisting the urge is incredibly satisfying, but sometimes, ever so slightly, you may find yourself slipping your hand into some poor choices, and that’s just as interesting.
Since her performance in Baldur’s Gate, Jennifer English has gained a new horde of fans for her performance in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. As the role of Maelle, English’s fantastic acting prowess was once again the highlight, but what is the actor up to next?
At the time of writing, the Shadowheart actor’s next performance is the role of Gwendolyn in the upcoming 2026 action game Tides of Annihilation where she plays the sole survivor of a siege on London during an Outworld invasion.
