Blizzard’s often-loved, often-hated Diablo 4 isn’t just the best selling game in the long-running Diablo series, but allegedly the best-selling game of Blizzard’s entire lifespan.

That’s according to Acitvision Blizzard communications lead Lauren Ashling Hill. In a recent LinkedIn bio spotted by Eurogamer, Hill revealed that Diablo 4 is currently “the best selling Blizzard game of all time”.

Alongside the Diablo claim, Hill also revealed that Modern Warfare II (the 2022 incarnation) is the “best selling game in CoD history”. This comes as the iconic FPS franchise hits its lowest sales ranking since 2008 with the butchered, AI-riddled release of Black Ops 7.

Diablo 4 has been a huge success for Blizzard, although the game has seen major issues since launch. While the game has been largely criticised by long-term fans, it is also an extremely popular ARPG, and is the most-played game in that genre.

In 2023, Blizzard confirmed that the game was the studio’s “fastest selling game of all time” with 93 million hours of the game played across its first four days. Blizzard explained that this would be the equivalent of one person “playing 24 hours a day since the beginning of human civilisation”.

In 2024, Diablo 4 saw its first major expansion: Vessel of Hatred, but the live-service ARPG is set to receive its long-awaited second expansion, Lord of Hatred, in April this year. While the game was originally planned to receive annual expansions, that is no longer the case.

With former Head of Diablo Rod Fergusson departing the team last year to get BioShock 4 out of the door, Blizzard has seen a sizeable restructure over the last six months. With Lord of Hatred set to bring a new class, a new campaign and some major overhauls to the main game, it’s looking like a great time to jump into Blizzard’s (allegedly) best-selling game of all time.
