Omega Force’s Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition – Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 will not compromise on the sheer number of foes you can cut down.

Built on Unreal Engine compared to the proprietary KATANA Engine of Dynasty Warriors Origins, there’s been worry that Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition would be cut down on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to home consoles. However, that won’t be the case.

Right now, a demo level of the Musou game is playable on the handheld, although that level doesn’t display the sheer density of crowds you’d see in later battles. While the game won’t see the massive 1,000-person armies of Origins on the handheld, it can get quite dense, and that exact density will be the same across all platforms.

Speaking to Nintendo Everything, producer Tomohiko Sho revealed that the game has been specifically “adjusted” on Nintendo Switch 2 to handle the same enemy count as other platforms. Additionally, the game has been built with a variable framerate, moving from between “30 to 60fps” depending on load. While not ideal, this should be okay for the handheld’s VRR screen.

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition – Remastered has already been criticised in its demo offering for its low resolution on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to other platforms. Sho explains that the team is considering adding a graphics mode and a performance mode to let players experience the game as they want, but that would come in a post-launch update.

For now, Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition – Remastered runs at an “upscaled 1920 x 1080 image” in handheld mode. However, it has not been revealed what the game’s internal resolution is, and it does seem quite low.

Nevertheless, as fans who have played the demo in Docked Mode already know, the game does look quite snazzy on the TV. Omega Force has revealed that the game displays at 2560 x 1440p docked, and while they didn’t specify, we’d also expect this to be an upscaled image as well.

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition – Remastered is nowhere near as impressive as the sheer cinematic quality of Dynasty Warriors Origins, though. While this game has been built on Unreal Engine 5, the KATANA Engine game ran and looked sublime, even when showing the largest enemy counts the series had ever seen on the tiny handheld. It was a technical marvel.

In comparison, Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition looks almost last-gen, but it is a very fun Musou experience. With that said, if you want something that shows the true scale of what the series can do on Nintendo Switch 2, you need to pick up Origins.
