Xbox’s new Fable reboot is looking great. After years of waiting—the game was announced way back in 2020—Playground Games’ systemic fantasy RPG is ready to launch later this year on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, but it could also come to Nintendo Switch 2.

Xbox’s support for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been less than many assumed. The gaming giant has released a port of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with a ports of Fallout 4, Indiana Jones and South of Midnight on the way, but many gamers (as well as ex-Nintendo executives) expected more from the company at launch.

According to renowned Xbox insider Jez Corden, a Fable Nintendo Switch 2 port is currently in consideration at developer Playground Games. Built on the studio’s custom ForzaTech engine, there is no prior work done on bringing the studio’s games to Nintendo’s platform, but it is being weighed up behind-the-scenes.

“Was told Fable for Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t 100% definite for now, but under consideration for the future,” Corden said. While the Xbox-focused journalist isn’t always correct, they do have a solid track record when it comes to first-party Xbox reporting.

Recently, Corden also revealed that the first Call of Duty game for Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on the system in the coming months. Following the reporter’s claim, dataminers found references to the handheld system in recent updates to the CoD API.

While Xbox has not released a large number of its projects on the new Nintendo handheld as of yet, the company has promised extensive support for the system. Speaking to Japanese outlet Famitsu, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said “if there are people who want to play our games on the PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2, we would love for them to play our games on those platforms.”

Nevertheless, there may be some limits as to what may actually be possible on Nintendo’s handheld. While the hardware is capable of some incredible ports—Star Wars Outlaws and the epic new Dynasty Warriors Origins ports come to mind—there are clear limitations.

As a seemingly 30fps game on Xbox Series S with heavy simulation aspects, which hammer the CPU, Fable may be a potentially difficult game to bring to Nintendo Switch 2. Nevertheless, it would be amazing to see the game playable on Nintendo’s handheld if a conversion is possible.
